1988 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.2 SPORT

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 with Sport Equipment is a superb example of a classic 1980s sports car, with a desirable specification and excellent service history. It is powered by the 228bhp 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six engine, coupled to a five-speed Getrag G50 manual transmission. The odometer shows 127,623 miles from new.

An original right-hand-drive UK market car, this 911 was specified from the factory with the UK dealer ‘Sport Equipment’ package, comprising upgraded Bilstein shock absorbers, lightweight forged alloys, a black lip spoiler at the front and the ‘whale tail’ spoiler at the rear. It was also fitted with a sunroof, Sport seats, rear wiper, velour boot carpet, and the uprated Hi-Fi system.

The car was supplied via AFN Porsche in London and was first registered in August 1988. There are just five previous registered keepers on the log book, and the last owner had it for 22 years. The current keeper acquired the car around nine months ago, and has covered around 1,000 miles behind the wheel.

Its bodywork presents in superb condition, with no evident spots of corrosion or damage to the panels. The seller reports that the vibrant Guards Red paint has a smart finish all around the car, and looks smooth and glossy throughout. There are a few minor scratches and blemishes visible upon close inspection, but certainly nothing that detracts from the impressive overall appearance.

The light lenses are all in very good condition, as are the rubber and plastic trims around the bumpers and spoilers. The window seals and door rubbers also present well. While originally supplied with Fuchs wheels, this 911 now rides on BBS style alloys with gold centres and polished rims, which are all in superb order.

In the cabin, this Carrera 3.2 is equipped with the electrically adjustable Sport seats, which are upholstered in full Linen leather with red piping. The driver’s seat side bolster was refurbished last year, and all of the seats are now in excellent condition. Its leather-trimmed steering wheel is in very good order, and while the gear knob, metal door lock pins, and contemporary stereo are aftermarket items, the rest of the interior appears to be original. The sunroof mechanism works perfectly, and the velour carpet in the front boot is still in great shape.

The last scheduled maintenance was carried out in September 2019 at 126,811 miles by Porsche specialist Williams Crawford. This consisted of an engine oil and filter service, along with a leakdown test, new oil cooler and seals, and new rear brake flexi hoses. The wheel bearings were also adjusted, followed by a full four-wheel alignment and balancing, and the front wheels were fitted with new bolts. Its engine lid struts were renewed, and a replacement fan blower motor was installed, along with new heater valve springs and hoses. Finally, the car was treated to a thorough detailing session. The total cost of the work came to £4,785.

Prior to this, in May 2019, the offside front and rear brake calipers were replaced, and the offside rear brake pipe was also renewed. In 2018, Cavendish Porsche carried out a full service at 123,315 miles. There is a receipt in the file for a new air flow meter from May 2016.

Its most recent MOT test was on 16 May 2019 at 126,645 miles, which resulted in a pass with the only advisory regarding wear on the rear tyres - and both were subsequently replaced. The wheels are now fitted with Bridgestone S02 tyres, which are all in very good condition.

Accompanying the car is the original driver’s handbook, stamped guarantee and maintenance record, service directory, dark red book wallet, and an extensive history file of paperwork.

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Sport is one of the most accessible yet impressive performance cars of its era. The colour scheme and factory-fitted spoilers are period-perfect features, and the addition of BBS style wheels only enhances the 1980s appeal. It is evidently in very smart cosmetic condition, and is still fresh from its major service in late 2019. This is an opportunity not to be missed if you are seeking a well-maintained classic 911 that is ready to enjoy on the road.
