1986 PORSCHE 911 (930) TURBO

This Porsche 911 Turbo is a well-documented and fastidiously maintained example of the 1980s supercar. Under the rear spoiler/engine lid lies a 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six producing 296bhp and 278lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and factory-fitted limited-slip differential. The odometer reads 91,341 miles from new.

Initially registered on 28 November 1986, the current vendor of this UK-market example owned this 911 for the past two years, with it previously featuring in the TV series Modern Wheels or Classic Steals in the summer of 2018. The car is supplied with a comprehensive history file, showing approximately £65,000 worth of maintenance lavished on this G-series 911 over the course of its life to date. It is believed to have spent a few years in Marbella recently, though it has never been exported, and remains a UK registered vehicle.

Finished in Grand Prix White, this example presents well thanks to a previous respray. The front splitter, bumper and bonnet exhibit some stone chips in line with regular use, and there is a slight masking line visible around the windscreen. Both of the rear quarters show small paint chips, and the vendor adds that a chip is visible on the windscreen (which does not affect the driver’s view). A handful of small bubbles are visible where the rear quarter panels meet the rear bumper, as well as near the sills – but this is still a smart modern classic.

The Porsche’s bodywork, light lenses and glass are believed to be all original, highlighting the level of care this example has received to date. Its iconic Fuchs alloy wheels are in exceptional order, with black painted centre ‘petals’ instead of the factory white finish, and polished rims.

Inside, this Turbo’s Linen leather interior with red piping and carpets is thought to be all original, and still presents very well. Both front electrically adjustable sport seats show modest signs of wear, with some discolouration on the driver’s side bolster, but they are in great shape considering the car will celebrate its 35th birthday later this year.

The dashboard and centre console show signs of age-related wear but remain complete, and there is an aftermarket Blaupunkt Alicante stereo fitted. The lights, electrically operated sunroof and windows are all operational, with the vendor noting the only known faults being that the stereo only plays out of the left channel, the heaters are not blowing, and the heated seat functions are inoperative.

The most recent invoice on file is for considerable work undertaken at Porsche Centre Marbella on 26 October 2017 at 90,587 miles. This work totalled more than €14,000, with more than half of that accounted for by an engine rebuild, with new gaskets, nuts, bolts and screws throughout. A starting issue was rectified, all four brake discs were replaced, new joint dust covers were fitted, and a general major service and Porsche health check were carried out.

The vendor states that the owner immediately prior to him had the 911 maintained by a local garage in Bromley, which looked after their car collection. Unfortunately, no invoices for this workshop’s maintenance are present; however, between 2010 and 2012, this example was looked after by marque specialist Charles Ivey. Apart from the addition of polished stainless steel heat exchangers from Type 911 of Bromley, this example remains true to its original specification.

The most recent MOT test was on 24 February 2021 at 91,337 miles. This was a first-time pass with zero advisories. Shod in matching Continental Super Contact N2 tyres, these were fitted in 2017 during the Porsche Centre Marbella work and have covered only some 800 miles to date.

Offering a compelling blend of timeless good looks, a period-perfect colour scheme, and entertaining performance, this 930-generation Porsche 911 Turbo is a well-maintained and useable example of the breed. It would make for a fine touring companion or a hugely enjoyable car for weekend blasts on your favourite roads.
