1985 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.2 SUPER SPORT EQUIPMENT

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 with Super Sport Equipment is a desirable modern classic, presented in a discerning factory colour scheme, and in very good order throughout. It is powered by a 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six, which drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 128,946 miles.

An original UK market car, this 911 was first registered on 1 November 1985. It was specified from the factory with the M491-code package - which became known as the ‘Super Sport Equipment’ option - consisting of the Turbo-look flared body, a black lip spoiler at the front and the ‘tea tray’ spoiler at the rear. It also included the axle brackets and stabilisers from the Turbo, along with the more powerful brakes.

The vendor has owned the car for just over six years, though it has spent most of that time in storage. It remains largely original, save for a non-original exhaust, lowered suspension, and an AMD ECU chip.

There are no obvious signs of any prior accident damage or repairs to the bodywork, and the panels present smartly today. Its Prussian Blue paint finish may have received small smart repairs or touch-ins in the past, but overall it is in very good condition, and the vendor notes just some minor stone chips at the front. The black wing guards ahead of the rear wheels are in great shape, and the 16-inch Fuchs wheels themselves have evidently been refurbished to a high standard with the centre ‘petals’ painted in the body colour.

Complementing the exterior beautifully, the interior is largely upholstered in Champagne tan leather, which is believed to be entirely original. The front sport seats show some modest wear and creasing, and some slight discolouration on the driver’s side, though they could be easily improved with a deep clean and conditioning. Its upper and lower dashboard sections, door caps, and the carpeting are all finished in dark blue, and these secondary trims are also in good shape. The only non-original element of the cabin appears to be the aftermarket stereo head unit. There are no known electrical faults or warning lights present.

Its last scheduled maintenance was at Litchfield Motors in October 2019 at 128,927 miles, though it will be given a fresh service prior to handover to the next owner. As mentioned above, the car has largely spent the last six years in storage, though it has still received regular oil and filter changes and general inspections.

The vendor states that there is a huge box file of history, containing receipts from Porsche main dealers and respected independents such as Autofarm. One particular invoice from 2008 indicates that the 911 had received a recent engine rebuild, and it has covered less than 5,000 miles since then. There are various other receipts dating back to 1992.

The most recent MOT test was on 20 October 2020 at 128,949 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories or defects noted. While the tyres have a good level of tread, the vendor states that they will be replaced prior to handover given their age.

Accompanying the car is the original book pack, including the service record, plus an extensive folder of various receipts and invoices for parts, maintenance and servicing. It is also reported to have won a Porsche Club GB Concours event in 1999, and documentation about this is included in the file.

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Super Sport Equipment is a very smart example of a true 1980s ‘poster car’, which boasts a rare and desirable factory colour scheme. If you have been seeking a wide-body Carrera 3.2 to get out and enjoy on the road as much as possible, then this is a compelling proposition; while its impressive condition also means that it would be a great addition to any collection.
