1985 BMW K100RT 'CAFE RACER'

KEY FACTS

  • A fun example of the ‘80s sport touring motorcycle, with various ‘cafe racer’-style modifications.
  • The K100 was the last BMW bike to be powered by the longitudinally mounted 1,171cc four-cylinder ‘Flying Brick’ engine, producing 130hp and 86lb-ft of torque, coupled to a six-speed transmission.
  • It has been serviced regularly since 2016 in particular.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This K100RT features custom bodywork, with new instruments, lights and a Devil exhaust with a removable sleeve.
  • It has been refinished in Graphite paintwork by Black Shuck Kustom with red accents and a black leather seat with red stitching.
  • It will come with evidence of regular services from 2016 onwards.

CONDITION

  • While the bike presents superbly today, in 1997 it was damaged and recorded under Category C. It was subsequently converted to a Café Racer and upgraded since then.
  • Its two-tone Graphite and red paintwork is in excellent condition, except for one small scratch on the rear spoiler.
  • The black leather seat has a few creases, but no considerable wear.
  • The fuel and ‘neutral’ lights are currently inoperative.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 30 June 2021 at an indicated 186 km, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Its most recent service was in June 2021, where technicians at Motard Motorcycle Servicing Workshop in London changed the fluids.
  • In June 2020, Motorcycle Service Centre in London fitted new spark plugs and a new battery, before changing the brake and clutch fluids.
  • In July 2016, repair and restoration work was performed, and the fuel tank was painted by Black Shuck Kustom.
  • The engine was completely rebuilt in 2015, while the frame was modified in tribute to the ‘cafe racer’ style. A new seat was fitted, with the battery positioned underneath.

SUMMARY

This BMW K100RT is a unique ‘cafe racer’-style tribute, with custom bodywork, a Devil exhaust and a rebuilt ‘Flying Brick’ four-cylinder engine. It has been serviced regularly in recent years, and would make a fun bespoke bike to enjoy out on the road.
