KEY FACTS
- A usable modern classic coupe, with an Alpine White finish and Anthracite fabric upholstery.
- It is powered by the 1.8-litre ‘M10’ inline-four, producing around 101bhp and 100lb-ft of torque, coupled to the five-speed manual transmission.
- Originally delivered to German Car Sales in Tucson, Arizona in August 1982, now with just two keepers on the logbook.
- It was looked after by BMW dealers up until 33,409 miles, with independent maintenance since then, and was serviced by the vendor around a month ago.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- Finished in Alpine White, this 320i now rides on 13-inch Alpina style alloy wheels.
- The upholstery features black vinyl for the seat backs and sides, and Anthracite velour cloth for the main seat panels.
- The car is equipped with the original BMW stereo but has an upgraded sound system with Alpine amplifier and subwoofer, and period-correct door-mounted speaker pods.
- Factory features include air conditioning and a sunroof. Aftermarket yellow glass-lens fog lights have also been installed.
- The car now rides on uprated Bilstein shock absorbers to enhance the ride and handling, and the wheels are shod with Bridgestone tyres.
- Its original owner’s manuals, service book and toolkit will be included, along with some maintenance invoices and a Carfax report.
CONDITION
- There is one small dent on the left-rear quarter panel. Rust can also be seen on both lower rockers, the lower wheel arches, the rear valance and in the spare tyre well.
- The Alpine White paintwork is in generally good order notwithstanding these areas, with a few minor blemishes around the front end.
- Inside, the fabric upholstery is very presentable for its age, with one mark on the driver’s seat back support and some wear to the base.
- There is a noticeable crack in the dashboard.
- No electrical faults have been detected.
SERVICE HISTORY
- Its most recent service was performed around a month ago, where the engine oil, filter, front wheel bearings, valve cover gasket, distributor housing gasket, spark plugs and spark plug wires were changed.
- The functional air conditioning was converted to R134a in 1998.
SUMMARY
This BMW (E21) 320i is a stylish classic coupe, with a few tasteful upgrades. While the next owner may wish to make some minor improvements to the bodywork and paint, this 3 Series is ready to use as-is. Fresh from a full service, it would make a smart weekend cruiser, and could be a great basis for further customisation.
