1982 PORSCHE 928 S

This 1982 Porsche 928 S is an attractive modern classic grand tourer, presented in smart condition and with low mileage. Under the bonnet is the 296bhp 4.7-litre V8, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays just 45,921 miles, which is verified and borne out by the invoices in the accompanying folders.

Manufactured in 1982, this 928 S appears to have been first registered with the DVLA in November 1989, after spending its early years on the Isle of Man. The seller has enjoyed the car for the last five years, and has maintained it to a good standard during this time.

Today, the car’s bodywork remains in great shape. The vendor states that there is no corrosion to be found on its panels, and its shut lines are flush and even. Treated to a respray in 2019, the Guards Red paintwork presents excellently overall, and has a bright and glossy appearance around the body. While there are some small blemishes, including a small patch of paint damage near the exhaust exit, these are minor imperfections. The lower front grille is also missing, so would benefit from replacement to protect the radiator and cooling fan. The car rides on the correct set of 16-inch alloy wheels, which have only very minor blemishes to their surfaces.

Moving inside, the seats are clad in cream leather with red piping. There are no rips or tears to the upholstery, and though the front seats are worn and somewhat discoloured with age, these could be improved via a re-connolising treatment. Elsewhere, the door cards, headlining and rear passenger area are trimmed in matching cream. Areas around the windows have shrunk with age, adding to the patina of a near 40-year-old car. The steering wheel has recently been recovered in black leather with red stitching and a matching leather cover has been fitted to the automatic gear selector.

Vibrant red carpets mirror the body colour, and the car has been fitted with a more modern stereo head unit with USB connectivity and aux-in. The vendor notes that the fan heater and air-conditioning system do not currently function, but all of the other electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights on the dashboard.

This 928 S’ most recent routine maintenance was carried out in March 2021 at 45,915 miles by technicians at Andover Car Service, who checked the car’s fluid levels and replaced its wheel bearings. Prior to this, the leads, distributor cap and breather pipes were replaced in August 2019, and the steering rack bushes were changed in June 2019. During the vendor’s ownership, they have also rectified a number of minor issues, replacing the radiator and hoses, the power steering reservoir, and the engine mounts, among other items.

This Porsche’s last MOT test was conducted on 2 June 2020 at 45,727 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. All four wheels are fitted with Porsche 928 recommended Continental tyres – PremiumContact at the front and SportContact at the rear – of varying age, but which have ample tread remaining.

The car will be accompanied by its original stamped service book, as well as two folders of past service receipts and maintenance records and its full tool kit. The seller is also supplying a new fitted indoor car cover and Porsche-branded umbrella in the sale.

This Porsche 928 S is a stylish and capable grand tourer, which benefits from a recent service and is offered for sale with low mileage and in its original specification.
