1980 PORSCHE 935 K3 RECREATION

This Porsche 935 K3 Recreation is a jaw-dropping ‘resto-mod’, which has been extensively upgraded and modified to become a stunning tribute to the legendary racing cars of the late 1970s and early 1980s. At the rear is a 3.2-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six, with an astonishing output of around 635bhp and 490lb-ft of torque at just 1.0 bar of boost pressure - though the dyno test estimate was that it had the potential to run to 800bhp. It is driven through a G50 five-speed manual transmission with an oil cooler and electric pump, and a four-paddle racing clutch.

In the current ownership for the last six years, this 935 K3 homage was created before this date using a 1980 911 SC as the foundation. Having acquired the car in its converted state, it was subsequently fully stripped down and rebuilt between 2014 and 2015, to ensure it was in fine working order. Since this ground-up endeavour - which was fully documented in photos - the car has covered only dynamometer time, and has not been on track at all in the last six years.

The full specification includes a Motec M4 ECU, 935-type adjustable boost control, and TiAL wastegates. It also has a 935 front oil cooler and front oil tank, a competition fuel tank, and twin brake master cylinders with bias control. Power is driven through a plate-type limited-slip differential, and the car rides on adjustable coilover shock absorbers. Inside, there is a full roll cage and side bars.

Its bodywork is a remarkable tribute to the original 935 K3, with superb proportions and details; including the heavily sculpted front and rear wings, deep front spoiler and side skirts, and the substantial adjustable rear wing. As if the dramatic shape wasn’t eye-catching enough, it is finished in the iconic Martini livery, giving this Porsche a huge presence at race meets. The paintwork is described as being in good condition, as shown by the photos below.

A glance over the body reveals quick-release catches for the front bonnet and engine lid, plastic side and rear windows, an easy access fuel filler neck, and front driving lights mounted behind clear panels. There are cut-off switches mounted on the scuttle, and numerous air ducts recessed into the bodywork. The exterior trims are generally in excellent order, with slight fading to components such as the door handles. It rides on deep 18-inch BBS split-rim alloy wheels, which are in sound condition. There is also a new set of matching wheels to go with the car.

The cabin has been almost entirely stripped out, now featuring only a simple and focused dashboard with a central rev counter and four auxiliary gauges for boost pressure, fuel pressure, oil temperature and oil pressure. Ahead of the driver is a classic Momo steering wheel, and an engine time readout showing just five hours since the rebuild. There is a Fabcar gear lever, and a panel of toggle switches with push-button start. A single Racetech bucket seat is installed, with a Sparco harness.

Fully inspected and prepared by racing specialist Phil Stott Motorsport, which has extensive experience with all manner of sports prototypes, Group C competitors and GT racers, this Porsche is presented in excellent mechanical order, ready to take to the track.

This Porsche 935 K3 Recreation is a sensational tribute to one of the most iconic historic racing cars of the ‘70s and ‘80s. A highly faithful homage featuring wonderful details throughout, this 911 is finished in an evocative livery, and is in ready-to-drive condition. A stunning recreation of a successful racer, this 935 K3 will undoubtedly thrill and amaze its next owner, wherever they choose to unleash its remarkable track performance.
