1980 PORSCHE 911 SC TARGA

KEY FACTS

  • Well maintained and in good condition, this SC Targa is presented in Porsche’s iconic Guards Red colour with Fuchs wheels and whale tail spoiler.
  • A 3.0-litre air-cooled flat-six motor sits back over the rear wheels, paired with a 915 five-speed manual transmission.
  • This is an Australian-delivered matching numbers engine and gearbox car, offered with an extensive service history.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Finished in Guards Red and complemented by a black interior, this 911 SC rides on original Fuchs wheels, and is fitted with a front lip spoiler and rear ‘whale tail’.
  • It has been maintained in its factory mechanical specification outside of a performance JUN BL exhaust.
  • An aftermarket alarm and immobiliser, driving lights and Pioneer head unit have been installed. An original Blaupunkt cassette radio was provided by a previous owner and will be included in the sale.
  • Sold with owner’s manual and maintenance record, which is a stamped replacement item from John Newell Porsche in Sydney, maintenance record book with extensive service history, workshop manual, receipts, original radio, full tool kit and original jack, air compressor and spare wheel.
  • Some spares and memorabilia will be included in the sale, including Porsche Design hat, Porsche towel, Porsche crest pins, Porsche coffee cup, a new spare brake master cylinder, shifter bushes, and Porsche magazines.

CONDITION

  • Bodywork presents very well, with panels in good condition and wheels, rear wing and targa roof all looking good. Other trim has been well preserved.
  • The car benefits from a respray in Guards Red prior to the current owner taking custodianship of the car in 2014, and this work has been kept in good condition. It presents only minor blemishes around the vehicle, such as a few small paint chips on the bumpers, paint chips under the engine cover and a small crack near the windscreen in front of the driver.
  • Separation of the targa bar seal and Targa bar has peeled off a small patch of paint on the targa bar near the driver’s door.
  • The black upholstery is believed to be original and has been well preserved, including the inside of the targa roof. There is normal wear for a 40-year-old vehicle, with the most significant being the steering wheel which has worn along the top edge of the grip and would benefit from refurbishment. There are no rips or tears, and while the clip for the driver’s seat tilt is missing, a replacement part is provided.
  • The car is reported to be mechanically sound. Its heater controls have been disconnected, with the original blower fan and ducting removed, but they will be provided with the vehicle. All other switches work as they should. The driving lights switch is aftermarket and located under the dash.
  • There is a slight oil weep in the oil hose to the timing tensioner and rear of the engine, the passenger door is tight to close and the seal needs relocating, and the air conditioning including compressor and associated parts was removed at some point in the car’s history.
  • A New South Wales roadworthy certificate inspection was carried out in January 2021 and the car passed without issue.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The most recent service was carried out in August 2021 at 259,400 km by J&L Perri Automotive. This was a major service, which included engine oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter and spark plug refreshment along with a routine inspection.
  • The two prior services were general maintenance including oil and filter changes and a recent brake fluid change. Comprehensive service documentation is available and will be provided with the sale.
