1980 PORSCHE 911 SC

KEY FACTS

  • A very good example of the 1980s sports car, with a smart Guards Red colour scheme and presented in impressive order throughout.
  • It is powered by a numbers-matching 3.0-litre air-cooled flat-six, which drives the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
  • An original UK-market car, this 911 was acquired by the vendor one year ago, having been kept in storage for the previous ten years under the ownership of a Porsche Club GB member.
  • It has since been comprehensively restored, and has covered only 100 miles since.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This 911 ‘Super Carrera’ is finished in the ever-popular hue of Guards Red over a black vinyl and cloth-trimmed interior.
  • It is equipped with the rare factory option Recaro front seats, which are typically found in the 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI.
  • It rides on the correct set of 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels, which have previously been refurbished.
  • Modifications include a Dansk exhaust system and heat exchangers, as well as a set of Bilstein shock absorbers.
  • A more modern Sony radio/CD player has also been installed in the cabin.
  • Its original owner’s manuals, stamped service book, toolkit and space saver wheel will be included, along with various history documents and a digital photographic record of the car’s restoration.
  • There are invoices for around £25,000 on file, but the vendor states that the total cost to restore the car came to around £62,000.

CONDITION

  • No known bodywork damage.
  • Its Guards Red paintwork has been recently resprayed, and is now in excellent condition, with no significant marks or blemishes.
  • Inside, the black upholstery has been restored, and the carpets have been cleaned.
  • In line with the car’s age, there are a few minor surface marks on the driver’s outer bolster and on the face of the steering wheel.
  • The heater controls work intermittently, but otherwise there are no known electrical or mechanical issues.
  • The most recent MOT test was conducted on 18 June 2021 at 115,933 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or noted defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • During the car’s restoration, the body was completely stripped and soda blasted.
  • Any rust was then cut out and fresh metal was welded in, before the shell was treated to a full coat of acid-etch primer, followed by a top coat, and a final layer of Guards Red paintwork.
  • The body trims and badges were also replaced with new items, along with the door and window rubbers.
  • The engine has been rebuilt and enclosed with new tinware, and is now covered by a 12-month warranty. The gearbox has been stripped and reassembled, while a new clutch has been fitted.
  • The original callipers have also been rebuilt and detailed, and the brake pads and discs have been replaced.
