1979 PORSCHE 911 (930) TURBO

This 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo is a fantastic example of the marque’s iconic supercar, presented in very smart condition and recently recommissioned following 20 years in storage. It is powered by a 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays just 29,620 km, certified in a court appraisal before the car was acquired by the current owner, although no service book is available.

First registered in 1979, this left-hand drive 911 is an early example of the updated model, which was introduced one year prior. As well as its 3.3-litre engine, the revised 930 also featured an air-to-air intercooler, updated anti-roll bars, firmer suspension dampers, and improved brakes.

Having been parked in a garage since the year 2000, the car was acquired by its current owner in 2020 after its prior keeper sadly passed away. It was then fully resprayed and recommissioned, and it is now offered for sale by the trade.

Today, the bodywork is in impressive condition, with straight, even shut lines and no evidence of any prior accident damage. Having been fully resprayed, the silver paintwork is in great shape, and has a smooth and glossy appearance around the entire car, with no noticeable marks or blemishes to speak of. The matt black ‘shark fin’ wing guards are also in excellent order, and the light lenses and rear reflector panel are in superb condition, with the exception of the right front light lens which has two small chips.

Filling the substantial wheel arches is the correct set of 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels, which are finished with black ‘petal’ spokes and polished rims. All four are in good shape; however there are kerb scratches on the rims of the rear items, which would benefit from refurbishment.

Inside, this Turbo features its original trim and black leather upholstery, and is in good condition for its age. The seats are clad in black leather with perforated centre sections, and show some minimal signs of wear, while the door cards also feature various small marks and scratches, though there are no rips or tears. Elsewhere, the dashboard and centre console show various signs of use, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel has a charming light patina.

All of the main controls present well, and while the vendor notes that the radio’s volume dial is missing, a new head unit could always be installed if it is a significant inconvenience. The air-conditioning system does not operate correctly, and the compressor needs to be overhauled, but all of the other electrical items work as they should.

This classic Porsche’s most recent routine maintenance was a full service, which was carried out by Cambiocorsa Srl in 2020. As the car had stood for around 20 years, it was fully inspected and all of its perishable and service parts were replaced, including the spark plugs, belts, seals and filters.

Its last Revisione roadworthiness test was conducted on 31 October 2020, which it passed without a single warning, and all four wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, which are in excellent condition, having been fitted in 2020.

This Porsche was inspected in 2020 by the Italian Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI) and received the gold plate as a recognition of the fact that the car is fully original with the exception of the paint.

This 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo is a sensational classic ‘poster car’, which blends timeless good looks and entertaining performance in one well-engineered package. Recently resprayed and mechanically recommissioned, it is ready to enjoy immediately, and is a great opportunity to acquire one of the most collectible 911s.
