1979 PORSCHE 911 (930) TURBO

This Porsche 930 Turbo is an exciting opportunity to own one of the marque’s most popular classic models, and is an original Australian-delivered 911 that presents in wonderful condition after a recent engine-out recommissioning. It is powered by a 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 274,334km.

The bodywork is believed to be all original, with no known prior damage, and is finished in the elegant Light Blue metallic hue. The paint itself looks superb, with only very minor marks commensurate with road use. All of the body trims and light lenses are present and correct, with slight wear in a few places, and the original ‘tea tray’ rear spoiler and rear wheel arch guards remain in place. It rides on 16-inch Fuchs alloys, with satin black centre petals and polished rims.

The interior is trimmed in dark blue leather with dark blue carpets, and complements the body colour beautifully. The leather seats have only minimal creasing, but no damage, and the door cards are also in great shape. Its headlining shows no signs of sagging, and all of the switchgear looks to be original and in good condition. The steering wheel has been swapped to a three-spoke Momo item, and the stereo has been upgraded to a modern head unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

This 930 came from the factory with the optional sunroof and air-conditioning, and both are in working condition. The seller has noted an intermittent issue with the mirror switch, but all other buttons and switches remain in good order.

There is an extensive service history and original books, with materials dating back to its original 21 March 1979 delivery date. The last scheduled maintenance was performed at 273,508 km where a full fluid and filter change was performed. It was also recently subjected to a AU$33,000-plus ‘engine out’ refurbishment less than 5,000 km ago, and the vehicle has needed no further work due to its extensive overhaul.

The engine and gearbox are smooth and drive well, with the addition of a custom exhaust system to maximise airflow and raise power to a touch above 300hp. The chassis benefits from uprated Bilstein suspension all round, though overall the car remains largely original, with OEM stickers and build plaques visible throughout.

Included in the sale will be a small collection of spare parts, including the original steering wheel, URO turn lights, touch-up paint and a folder of original books, manuals and ownership documents.
