1977 PORSCHE 911S 2.7

This Porsche 911S 2.7 is an outstanding classic sports car, which has recently been treated to a comprehensive restoration, and must be one of the very examples available. Under the engine lid is the numbers-matching 2.7-litre air-cooled flat-six, which drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 107,751 miles.

An original US-market 911, this car was shipped to the UK and imported in early 2017, and very soon after this it was acquired by the vendor, who remains the only UK owner on the V5C. Its previous keeper in the US had owned the car since 1994. After its arrival in the UK, the car was sent away to be completely stripped and rebuilt, with the bumpers changed to European specification items, and the headlights changed to Bosch right-hand drive units.

During the restoration, the body was disassembled right down to the shell, which was sandblasted and resprayed in period-correct Peru Red. An extensive set of photos accompanies the car to show the attention to detail in the bodywork refurbishment - with excellent shut lines and panel gaps - and the repaint, which remains in superb condition. The rear wings were replaced – as the previous owner had fitted wider items – and the bumpers were changed, and all of the window and trim seals and rubbers were also renewed. Its light lenses are in excellent order, and the car rides on a set of 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels, finished with black centre petals and polished rims.

Stepping inside, this 911 looks every inch the 1970s poster car, with its re-trimmed leather seats having fluted and perforated centre panels, and with the car having the correct three-spoke steering wheel and gear lever assembly. The only modern addition is the Blaupunkt Melbourne stereo head unit with USB and aux-in connectivity. All of the interior trim presents superbly, including the new headlining, and the door panels have been refurbished with new storage pockets. There are no known faults, and no warning lights on the VDO gauges.

Its 2.7-litre flat-six engine was completely rebuilt as part of the extensive restoration, with its original Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system, and there are numerous photos on file showing the high-quality workmanship of the refurbishment. Since the rebuild, the car has covered just under 1,000 miles, so the refreshed motor is now run in and performing strongly. The mechanical restoration was exhaustive, and included completely refurbished suspension joints, shock absorbers and wheel hubs, as well as a rebuild of the drive shafts, brake callipers and lines, and anti-roll bars. A new fuel tank was fitted, and the exhaust system was replaced, including a stainless steel silencer.

Exempt from mandatory testing on the basis of age, this 911 was last put through an MOT test on 9 February 2017 at 106,825 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. The wheels are fitted with Pirelli Cinturato tyres at the rear and Marshal tyres at the front, which are all reported to be in good condition, and appear to have a sufficient tread depth.

Accompanying the car is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, as well as the previous owner’s title documents. There was no service history with the car when the vendor acquired it, though he does have some receipts covering the restoration work - in addition to the comprehensive photo build diary.

This Porsche 911S 2.7 is a remarkable example of the breed, which has been refinished to the factory specifications in a smart period-correct colour, and which remains unmodified and true to its origins. A numbers-matching example, this 911S would make a great addition to any Porsche collection. It is now ready to be enjoyed out on the open road, where the vendor states that it has performed superbly over its running-in mileage on the rebuilt engine.
