1977 BMW 633 CSI

This BMW 633CSi is a very smart example of the marque’s flagship model of its era, with a stunning colour scheme and an excellent history file. Under the bonnet is a 200hp straight-six BMW M30 motor mated to a smooth three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer shows 183,570 km.

The 633CSi was delivered new to Sydney by Capital Motors in June 1977. As BMW’s most expensive car, not many made their way onto the roads at the time, making this an uncommon opportunity – especially in this condition.

Its fantastic Mint Green paintwork with accenting pinstripes benefits from a respray and is in good condition all round. There are some minor blemishes on the rear boot lid, but there is no known prior damage to any of the body panels, which are straight and fit well. The other exterior trims also present well, as do the correct and now rather rare BMW-stamped TRX multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Inside, the car’s original beige cloth and leather interior is in very good condition, showing only minor wear and tear from its near-45 years of use. There are small splits on the driver’s seat base, and wear on the rear seat section, but overall they are in remarkable order considering the age and mileage. The glove box fit has sunk slightly on the passenger side, but otherwise the interior trim looks great. An aftermarket Kenwood head unit has been installed, and there are no known faults with any of the switchgear or electrics.

BMW Performance Victoria performed a major service on the car in 2017, including refurbishment of the suspension. Prior to that, the car also received a routine service in 2016. The car has reportedly been well-maintained from new, and the original owner’s handbook will be included in the sale; along with the service booklet and a large history file, with some paperwork dating back to the 1970s. The BMW is currently unregistered, and its tyres are in fair condition and estimated at 60% tread life.

This BMW 633CSi is an increasingly rare classic cruiser, finished in an eye-catching factory colour. With its solid history and impressive overall condition, it would make a fine weekend driver, and it is sure to appeal to even the most discerning of collectors.
