1976 PORSCHE 911 2.7

KEY FACTS

  • Based upon an exceptionally original car, this is a highly usable ‘resto-mod’, with a raft of reversible mechanical upgrades and benefiting from a recent full engine rebuild.
  • This car retain its galvanised shell from the factory, having never been welded, benefiting from Ziebert/Waxoyl rust-proofing from new.
  • Under the rear decklid is the numbers-matching fuel-injected 2.7-litre flat-six, coupled to a ‘915’ five-speed manual transmission with short-shift.
  • It was registered new to Gordon Ramsay, the former owner of Gordon Ramsay Porsche Services, now known as Porsche Centre Newcastle.
  • When acquired by the vendor in 2017, the car was entirely original, having been kept in dry storage since 1997 in the possession of the previous keeper, who had owned the car since 1986.
  • It has now been comprehensively overhauled and mechanically upgraded, but could always be returned to its original specification if desired.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • While the car has been mechanically upgraded, the shell is remarkably original. While the vast majority of cars will have had various replacement panels or repairs due to rust, the elements on this 911 are original; including the sills, kidney bowls, inner rear wheel arches, behind the B-pillar posts, the front boot floor, front wings, and all of the floor pans and torque tubes.
  • It is finished in the original 1970s Grand Prix White paintwork, with Tartan cloth seat centres, and a sunroof.
  • During the full engine rebuild in 2019, it was fitted with 2.7 RS-specification pistons and barrels, along with a K&N air filter and refurbished or replaced ancillaries.
  • It rides on Elephant Racing adjustable rear spring plates and lightweight torsion bars, with a KW V3 damper kit, anti-bump steer spindle heights, poly-bushed radius arms and anti-roll bars, and new track rod ends.
  • The brakes have been completely overhauled, while the 915 gearbox has been given a WEVO short-shifter, a precision shift joint and a new clutch.
  • The exhaust is a SST Technology stainless steel item with long-life heat exchange headers, a Dansk rear section and GT3-style dual outlet pipes.
  • On the exterior, a set of Vitaloni Sebring mirrors with custom bases have been fitted; however, the original ‘flag’ mirrors are included.
  • The wheels are refurbished 15-inch ‘cookie cutter’ items, with new Toyo R888R tyres.
  • Inside, the smooth RS-style door panels have been fitted with yellow door pulls, while the footwells now feature aluminium plates with Rennline pedals on the driver’s side.
  • A 350mm Momo ‘Mod.07’ black suede steering wheel and an updated Blaupunkt stereo have been installed, while the rev-counter is now white.
  • Its original owner’s manuals, service book, sales brochure, spare wheel, jack, tyre pump and tool roll will be included, along with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, various early maintenance invoices and a new battery.
  • The car is also accompanied by a superb MOT test history, which provides excellent documentation of the mileage accrual from new.
  • The original plaid door cards, interior quarter panels, rear seats, mirrors, steering wheel and stereo have been dry-stored and will be included in the sale alongside the factory-fitted chrome trim pieces.

CONDITION

  • There is no prior bodywork damage.
  • Its original 1970s Grand Prix White paintwork is in good condition, with small stone chips around the front end, and a small patch of missing paint on the bonnet where a sticker was removed. There is a wonderfully authentic ‘patina’ across the bodywork, which can only be found on such an original car.
  • Inside, the front seats have been given a new foam filling, and the vinyl and plaid cloth upholstery is now in excellent shape.
  • No electrical issues have been detected.
  • The car is exempt from mandatory MOT testing, but the vendor states that it is in superb mechanical condition, and does not consume or drip any oil.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Its 2.7-litre flat-six was comprehensively rebuilt in 2019 by technicians at Nine Excellence in Horley, at a cost of around £25,000.
  • It was stripped, assessed and rebuilt with either re-machined or entirely new parts, including the fuel injectors, fuel injector lines, fuel pump, fuel distributor, warm-up regulator, fuel accumulator, fuel lines, distributor cap, rotor arm, HT leads, ignition coil and spark plugs.
  • The ‘915’ gearbox has been given a check over, where the oil was changed and a new clutch was fitted.
  • The brakes have been overhauled with new discs, callipers, handbrake shoes, braided hoses, a new master cylinder and new ancillaries.
  • The exhaust heat exchanger flaps and heat-proof piping have been replaced.
  • Various exterior rubbers have been replaced.
  • It was last serviced in 2020, where technicians changed the engine oil and filter.

SUMMARY
