1974 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 2.7 MFI TARGA

This Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI Targa is a superb classic sports car, presented in excellent condition and in its original rare specification. Under the engine lid is the numbers-matching 210bhp 2.7-litre air-cooled and fuel-injected flat-six, which drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 64,727 km.

As a 1974 model year example, this narrow-bodied left-hand drive ‘G‘ model 911 Targa is recognisable by its single chrome-plated door mirror and ‘impact’ bumpers. First registered in April 1974, it is understood to have remained in Europe from new, and was acquired by the seller four years ago.

Today, this 911’s iconic bodywork is in excellent order, with no evidence of prior damage and flush, even shut lines. Having previously been resprayed, the Grand Prix White paintwork has a bright and glossy appearance, and is described by the vendor as being in perfect condition, while black ‘Carrera’ stripes provide a pleasing contrast on the car’s flanks.

The exterior trim and badging are also in good order, and the eponymous Targa roll-hoop is finished in brushed ‘Nirosta’ stainless steel, unlike the satin black finish applied to later examples. Furthermore, the black vinyl-clad roof panel is in great shape, and is free of any damage. The car rides on a set of 15-inch Fuchs alloy wheels with satin silver petals and rims, which are accented by matt black details. All four present very well, and are free of any chips, scrapes or kerb damage.

Moving inside, the cabin is believed to retain its original upholstery, comprising black Skai vinyl and pinstripe cloth, which is in fantastic condition for its age. The front seats are in very good order, as are the door cards. Looking ahead, the leather-wrapped steering wheel shows few signs of wear, and the original VDO gauges provide the driver with all of the information they need at a quick glance. This 911 is fitted with a period-correct Blaupunkt Amsterdam radio, and all of the car’s buttons and switches are reported to work without fault.

Routinely serviced and well-cared for, this classic Porsche’s mechanical components are in great shape and its underbody is in excellent order, as shown in the full gallery. Its most recent maintenance was carried out in November 2019 at 62,980km, when a full service was performed, which included a brake fluid change. Prior to this, the rear suspension components were replaced, and the injectors and fuel pump were rebuilt.

Its last Revisione roadworthiness inspection took place on 22 February 2020, with no issues being found. All four wheels are fitted with Pirelli P6000 tyres, which appear to be in good order, and are described by the vendor as having around 60-70% of their original tread remaining.

This classic 911 will be accompanied by its original use and maintenance booklet and service book, however this was only stamped early in the car’s life.

This Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI Targa is a sublime, numbers-matching example of the classic open-top sports car. Presented in excellent condition both inside and out and in great mechanical order, this rare Targa will take pride of place in any collection, and its 210bhp air-cooled engine is ready to be put to good use by its next owner.
