1972 BMW (E9) 3.0 CS

KEY FACTS

  • This 1972 BMW 3.0 CS is a clean and original example of the classic E9 coupé that presents beautifully thanks to some sympathetic refurbishment.
  • Powered by a 3.0-litre BMW M30 straight-six with twin carburettors mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.
  • Originally delivered to London, the car is sold with BMW classic vehicle certification, confirming its authenticity.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Finished in Baikal Blue Metallic, this 3.0 CS is now fitted with a retractable sunroof, as well as black vinyl covering over the roof frame and pillars.
  • Inside, there is black leather upholstery, an original wood rim steering wheel, electric windows, a classic radio, and elegant wood trims.
  • It now rides on period-correct 16-inch Alpina alloy wheels, fitted with Dunlop SP Sport tyres.
  • Sold with a Vehicle Certificate from BMW Classic as well as the original in-car tool kit and spare tyre.
  • The indicated mileage of 4,102 miles is not correct, but may be the distance covered since the refurbishment.

CONDITION

  • The bodywork appears straight and solid. Some prior damage to the driver’s side front corner panel has previously been repaired.
  • The BMW benefits from a respray in the correct Baikal Blue Metallic paint. The respray was carried out prior to the current ownership to a high standard and has been well maintained.
  • The black vinyl roof, aftermarket Alpina wheels, chrome trim and bumpers are all in very good condition.
  • An interior re-trim has also been completed to a high standard. The leather seats, dashboard and door panels, carpets and other upholstery are in very good condition, and the original wood accents look smart.
  • Some of the dashboard gauges are not connected, but the car presents no other electrical issues.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • Last serviced in November 2019 by Modena Autosport in Mulgrave, Victoria, this work included renewing the seals for the doors, boot and windows, and attending to the bonnet latch.
  • A standard minor service including oil and filter change was carried out in 2018.

SUMMARY

This BMW 3.0 CS is a stylish and sophisticated 1970s classic in sound mechanical condition. Its original specification is confirmed in the accompanying BMW Classic certificate, while the recently refreshed paintwork and upholstery mean it now presents superbly for its age.
