1970 PORSCHE 911 T 2.2 COUPE

KEY FACTS

  • A stunning, restored example of an early 911, believed to retain its original body panels.
  • In the rear sits the numbers-matching 2.2-litre air-cooled flat-six, producing around 125hp which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
  • This example was fully restored during 2009, and includes a wealth of paperwork.
  • The car was imported from California to the UK and re-registered in May 2013 to the previous owner.

EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS

  • From the factory, the car was fitted with front and rear bumper horns, 911S instruments and oil tank, a raised steering wheel hub, and 15-inch chrome disc wheels.
  • It has since been enhanced by grille-mounted front spot lamps, and 15-inch Fuchs alloy wheels.
  • This particular 911 has been extensively restored by California Porsche Restoration in 2009 with numerous invoices pertaining to work carried out, with a total cost of $42,819.00 – and it would cost far more today to complete to achieve the same result.
  • Included with the vehicle is a wealth of invoices, original owner’s manual and stamped service record, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

CONDITION

  • There is no known bodywork damage, and the car was given a bare-metal refurbishment as part of the restoration.
  • Top-quality PPG single stage paint was used in the restoration, which not only saw the whole car stripped back to bare metal but also the fitment of new Porsche rubber seals all round, a new windscreen, new headlights and overhauled tail lights, fresh Wurth undercoating and restored or replaced hardware all round. Today, there are a few very minor marks to the front end, but overall the paint finish looks very good.
  • All four 15x6in Fuchs wheels have been refurbished and are pristine, shod with Dunlop Sport Classic tyres in the period-correct 185/70/15 size.
  • Inside, the cabin was re-trimmed with the seats, door panels and pillar trims being finished in the correct OEM black leatherette; while the dashboard and headlining are also in great shape. A new period-correct silver knit carpet was also fitted.
  • An original steering wheel is included, as well as the Nardi wood-rimmed unit currently fitted. The vehicle retains a period Blaupunkt radio and 911S dials.
  • There are no warning lights present on the instrument panel.
  • Current MOT certificate with test carried out on 15 June 2021 at an indicated 24,868 miles, which was a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The latest service took place during March 2021 at Body & Soul Autoworks Ltd. This comprised of a standard oil and filter change.
  • During the vendor’s ownership the suspension height has been raised back to the factory level.
  • When restored, the car received a new clutch, gearbox overhaul, brake system overhaul and much more. Paperwork from 2009 provides all the detail on what was done to the car during this work, as can be seen in the photo gallery below.
  • It has been maintained by specialists during its time in the UK. The car received an oil and filter service at Historika in 2017. At this time, all new Koni suspension was fitted, as well as an upgraded front anti-roll bar. The carburettors were also rebuilt, and a new distributor, uprated ignition system and alternator were fitted.

SUMMARY

In wonderful cosmetic condition and strong mechanical order, this Porsche 911 T 2.2 has seen limited use since its specialist restoration. The car now offers a great opportunity to obtain an early air-cooled car that is ready to drive and enjoy.
