1970 PORSCHE 911 T

Finished in its gorgeous original colour combination of Tangerine over Black, this left-hand-drive 1970 Porsche 911T is a restored example that was originally delivered to the USA. Presented in excellent condition, this 911 is powered by a 2.2-litre flat-six engine, driven by a five-speed manual gearbox.

The 911T model was a simply specified variant of the original 911, with the ‘T’ name later re-introduced by Porsche for the lightweight 991 variant. This example is presented in unmodified condition, receiving a total bare-metal restoration in 2009 by California Porsche Restoration at a cost of $42,819 dollars. With no stone left unturned and select patinated original items retained, the car presents in fantastic condition today.

First registered on 4 August 1970, the car was imported from Houston, Texas, USA to the United Kingdom in October 2012. The vendor has owned the car for around eight years, in which time 19,223 miles have been covered.

The car is finished in its original hue of Tangerine (23), as confirmed by the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, which has a deep shine today. Top-quality PPG single stage paint was used in the restoration, which not only saw the whole car stripped back to bare metal but also the fitment of new Porsche rubber seals all round, a new windscreen, new headlights and overhauled tail lights, fresh Wurth undercoating and restored or replaced hardware all round, amongst much more work. The vendor reports there are a few minor blemishes, but overall the paintwork is very good.

The shut lines are crisp and even, and the internal painted areas, such as the door shuts, present very well. The engine bay is clean and tidy, and fresh foil decals were applied in the engine bay during the restoration. The front bonnet area also presents very well, with tidy carpeting, a clean fuel tank and room for the spare Fuchs wheel. The car is fitted with a high-quality metal roof rack for a retro touch, as well as horn grille mounted Hella spotlights in excellent condition. The correct flat 15x6 inch Fuchs wheels were professionally refurbished, and today, they present very well indeed. The car is wearing one-year-old Dunlop Sport Classic tyres in the period-correct 185/70/15 size, covering only a few hundred miles.

Moving inside, the interior is in fantastic condition, thanks to a sympathetic refurbishment during the restoration. The original seats were completely retrimmed in OEM material, as were all door panels and pillar trims, and they all present excellently today. A new period-correct silver knit carpet was installed, as was a fully restored dashboard assembly, and all gauges were professionally overhauled. Some of the original components, such as the gear knob, were left untouched and are in great original condition. An original steering wheel is included, as well as the Nardi wood-rimmed unit currently fitted. The vendor reports that the rear window heating element, clock and cigarette lighter are the only non-functioning components.

When restored, the car received a new clutch, gearbox overhaul, brake system overhaul and more, and it has been maintained by specialists during its time in the UK. At the time of listing, the car was booked in for a service at specialists Auto Umbau Porsche in Bedfordshire. Its last MOT test was in January 2017 with a first-time pass and no advisories, but as this car was built more than 40 years ago, it is exempt from being MOT tested. The car also received an oil and filter service at Historika in 2017. At this time, all new Koni suspension was fitted, as well as an upgraded front anti-roll bar. The carburettors were also rebuilt, and a new distributor, uprated ignition system and alternator were fitted.

Sold with restoration and maintenance invoices, original owner’s manual, record book and original Bilstein jack, this 911T is a fine example ready for a new owner to enjoy, as a great amount of time and money has already been spent on restoration and upkeep.
