1969 PORSCHE 911 S 2.0

KEY FACTS

  • A stunning, lightly restored example of the performance-oriented 911 S, presented in excellent condition and recently recommissioned by marque specialist Tuthill Porsche.
  • Under the rear engine lid is the car’s original, numbers-matching 170bhp fuel-injected 2.0-litre flat-six, which drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
  • Originally a US-market car, this 911 S was sold new in Arizona, and was later exported to Australia in the early 1990s, when it was converted from left to right-hand drive for compliance purposes, using original Porsche parts.
  • The car was then shipped to the UK in 2020, when it was treated to a £10,000 inspection and recommissioning by Tuthill.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Representing the pinnacle of the 911 range in period, this ‘S’ model is finished in its original hue of Bahama Yellow over a black leatherette interior.
  • Factory-fitted equipment includes air conditioning and a retractable radio antenna.
  • It rides on the original, date-stamped set of Fuchs alloy wheels, which are finished in black with polished rims and ‘petal’ spokes, and are in great shape.
  • Entertainment is provided via a more modern Clarion stereo.
  • The car will be accompanied by extensive documentation of its history and prior maintenance, dating back as far as 1979.

CONDITION

  • No known body damage.
  • Believed to have been recently resprayed, the Bahama Yellow paintwork is in very good shape overall, with no noticeable scuffs or scratches. While there are few very minor blisters at the top of the passenger-side front wing and on the passenger-side quarter panel, these were investigated by Tuthill Porsche during the car’s examination in Spring 2020, who found no underlying corrosion.
  • Inside, the cabin features a pair of replacement front seats from BF Torino, which are in excellent condition, with only one small split in the piping on the driver’s outer bolster.
  • The rest of the interior trim is similarly smart, and while the instruments and carpet have discoloured slightly, this is in line with the car’s age.
  • There are no known mechanical or electrical issues with the car.
  • Although it is exempt due to its age, this classic Porsche’s last MOT test was conducted on 27 May 2020 at 17,193 miles, resulting in a clean pass after the headlamps’ aim was adjusted.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This 911 S’ most recent routine maintenance was the in-depth recommissioning, which was carried out in June 2020 at an indicated 17,100 miles by Tuthill. This included replacement of the engine mounts, a lower ball joint, the track rod ends and the anti-roll bar bushes, as well as a spark plug change, fitment of a new flywheel oil seal, and a brake fluid change, among other items.
  • During this recommissioning, Tuthill technicians also stripped back and reapplied the underseal and Waxoyl underneath the car.
  • Prior to this, the car was in long-term storage during its time in Australia, and the seller is able to provide a well-documented service history dating back to 1979.
