1968 PORSCHE 912

KEY FACTS

  • A good and highly original example of the classic sports car, which would make a superb regular driver.
  • To the rear sits the numbers-matching 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four engine, which drives the rear wheels through the optional five-speed manual transmission.
  • Initially registered overseas, it was imported to the UK and re-registered in 1998, with five subsequent keepers over the last 23 years.

 EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • There have been no modifications carried out to the car, with the bodywork presented in the original Polo Red, and the interior trimmed in black vinyl.
  • Of particular note, the vendor states the chassis has never been welded.
  • The service record and handbooks are included with the car, having been recently serviced by the vendor, renowned Porsche specialist Francis Tuthill.

CONDITION

  • There is no known prior damage to the bodywork.
  • The Polo Red paintwork presents well, with some superficial marks, a small dent on the offside door, and minor patches of surface corrosion.
  • All four wheels are in good shape, though do have some surface wear and pitting to the finish.
  • Inside, the cabin is very well preserved overall. There is a split on the dashboard, which is a common issue on 912s, and the headliner is stained around the door apertures.
  • There are no known faults with the car.
  • On account of its age, the car is exempt from mandatory MOT testing. The last test took place in December 2007 at 22,048 miles, so the car has covered less than 500 miles since then.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The most recent service took place during June 2021 and was carried out at 22,557 miles, carried out by the owner, Francis Tuthill.
  • This work included a full top end overhaul on the engine, attention to the tinwork and powder-coating of various components, new brake calipers, under-body wax oil treatment and routine service items.
  • Prior to this, the car has been serviced on an annual basis over the last 10 years in particular.
  • In addition to servicing, the front bumper has also been removed, sandblasted and repainted to rectify stone chips.
