Lot Description

  • A stunning restored example of the 1960s roadster, in a timeless colour scheme.
  • It is powered by a 150hp 2.3-litre straight-six with Bosch fuel injection, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
  • The lesser-seen manual gearbox lends this 230 SL a more involving driving experience.
  • Initially delivered to the US, it was re-imported to Europe in 2015 and subsequently restored in Germany.

  • Finished in a smart metallic grey hue, the bodywork is complemented by a rich bright red leather interior.
  • The vendor has the latest TÜV documents on file, but no prior service history.
  • First registered in June 1966, it was acquired by the vendor for his private collection five years ago.

  • No known bodywork damage.
  • Its paintwork is in truly impressive condition, with a deep and glossy shine across the body panels, and with no significant marks or blemishes noted.
  • The interior has been fully re-trimmed, and the vendor reports that it genuinely looks as good as new. There is no wear to the seats or door cards, and the carpeting is in superb order. The wood trim across the top of the dashboard has been left original to add a dash of patina.
  • There are no known electrical or mechanical faults. The car was restored prior to being acquired by the vendor, though there are no records of the work carried out.

This Mercedes-Benz 230 SL 'Pagoda' is a sophisticated 1960s classic presented in a stunning colour scheme and still looking fresh from prior restoration. It is a characterful and usable roadster, with the involving manual transmission giving it added appeal for drivers who like to take control.
