The Ultimate Air-Cooled 911 993 GT2 RS Porsche Splash

One of just 172 road-going versions of the 993 GT2, now live for bids.

Among Porsche connoisseurs, there is one modern 911 that stands out as the pinnacle of the air-cooled bloodline: the 993 GT2. Built to homologate the car for FIA GT Championship racing, just 172 road-going versions of the GT2 were made. It is one such car that is the latest premium offering on the Collecting Cars platform.

With such limited numbers built, these homologation specials found homes in Porsche collections around the world. This car was ordered by its first owner in Japan, finished in the rare factory hue of Arctic Silver Metallic, and equipped with hard-shell sport seats, air conditioning, electric windows, and radio preparation - making it a car as well suited to long-distance road trips as track driving.

It remained in Japan for 18 years, before spending time in the care of a single owner in the US, and more recently having been imported to the UK and registered to the current keeper. Since arriving in the UK, a GT1 steering wheel has been fitted, and its original sport seats have been removed and carefully stored, with a set of brand-new Recaro Pole Position bucket seats fitted instead - but trimmed in the same colour scheme as the original upholstery. Of course, the original seats and steering wheel are included in the sale, along with all of the factory tools and accessories - even the unused Porsche-branded mechanic’s gloves. The odometer shows just 42,920 Km (26,670 miles) from new.

The Ultimate Air-Cooled 911 993 GT2

This particular Porsche 993 GT2 retains its matching-numbers engine: an incredible twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six, producing up to 430hp and 432lb-ft of torque, coupled to the original six-speed manual transmission. While today’s supercars might boast power figures twice that high, the GT2 is incredibly light by modern standards, tipping the scales at just shy of 1300kg. That means it can rocket from 0-60mph in just 3.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 187mph.

A pre-purchase inspection for the current owner by Porsche specialist Neil Bainbridge suggested that the car retains its original body panels, while the Arctic Silver paint is also thought to be the factory finish. Bainbridge’s workshop also carried out a major service in November 2020, renewing the engine gaskets and turbocharger heat shields, clutch release bearing, replacing the tappets and resetting the cam timing, followed by a full geometry check and adjustment. As you would expect, the car now drives and handles superbly, ready to thrill on the road or track.
