The Porsche script conjures images of some of the world’s great road and racing cars. Its ‘There is no substitute’ marketing slogan emerged in the ‘70s or ‘80s, and was made even more famous when uttered by Joel Goodson - the protagonist played by Tom Cruise in the 1983 film Risky Business - after taking his father’s 928 for a joy ride.
This lot comprises a large illuminated sign, featuring the Porsche script logo, plus the famous marketing slogan. It is constructed using a metal box frame, with translucent acrylic for the backlit panel. The sign features white writing against a red background.
Its dimensions are 100cm in width, 20cm in height, and 20cm in depth, and the sign is wired to a standard UK three-pin plug connection. There are two heavy-duty loops built into the top edge, as it is designed to be hung from chains or wires from a ceiling or beam.
A large item with bold block text, this would be an eye-catching addition to any garage or workshop, especially when hung alongside one or two Porsche sports cars - and of course is particularly appropriate if you own a 928 model given the Risky Business connection.
The sign has been part of a personal collection assembled over a 30-year period by a dedicated enthusiast with a passion for preserving automotive items of historic interest. The seller is happy to assist with the logistics of packaging and worldwide postage, providing that costs are covered by the winning bidder.
The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
