CHARITY AUCTION - 1976 LAND ROVER SERIES III

This Land Rover Series III is a charming example of one of the most popular models from the marque’s back catalogue, presented in strong mechanical condition and with appealing patina. It is powered by the 2.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, coupled to a four-speed main manual transmission with Fairey overdrive. The mileage from new is understood to be 116,262 miles.

First registered in May 1976, this is an original UK market car, and there are 10 previous registered keepers on the V5C log book. The seller has owned the car for the last six years, and has covered around 1,500 miles in that time.

The bodywork is straight and solid, though has a few chips and scuffs around the panels as you would expect given its age and utility design. It is finished in Marine Blue, with the roof and rear side panels in a contrasting off-white hue. While there are various blemishes and a few paint runs present, it generally looks smart with a ‘shabby chic’ patinated appearance. It is equipped with front and rear light guards, driving lamps mounted on the front bumper, and 16-inch steel wheels.

Inside, the contoured seats are upholstered in black vinyl by Exmoor Trim, and present in superb condition. There are bench seats in the back, and seat belts available for all passengers. All of the instrument gauges, levers and switchgear are in good order, and there are no known electrical faults. There is diamond-plate floor covering in the rear, and tailored rubber mats in the front.

The last scheduled maintenance was in February 2016 at 115,777 miles, carried out by Land Rover specialist Nick Kerner. This consisted of an engine oil service, renewal of the rocker cover gasket, and replacement of the gearbox oil. The steering box and starter motor were also renewed, along with the heater valve, front brake shoes, and various brake hoses and pipes. New rear spring mount bushes and rear half shaft seals were also fitted.

Its most recent MOT test was on 11 June 2019 at 15,981 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The steel wheels - including the full-size spare on the bonnet - are fitted with Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tyres in size 235/85 R16, which remain in very good condition with plenty of tread remaining.

Accompanying this Land Rover is an original Series III owner’s manual, British Leyland service passport, Overdrive handbook, and numerous old service invoices.

This Land Rover Series III is a wonderful classic utility vehicle, which is in perfectly good condition to enjoy as-is, or which could be used as the basis for a more significant restoration in the future. It is also eligible for import to the United States under the 25-year rule. An iconic and practical car, this reliable Series III has bags of character, and would make a great addition to any collection.

Please bid generously! For charity auctions, the buyer's premium will be refunded in full.
