2019 RAGE COMET R

This Rage Comet R is an incredible high-performance buggy - dubbed an “off-road supercar” by Carfection - which remains in excellent condition with only 58 miles on the odometer. While this example is not yet road registered, it would simply need to be put through an IVA inspection to access a set of number plates. It is powered by a Kawasaki ZZR1400 motorcycle engine, producing around 240bhp in this buggy, coupled to a six-speed sequential short-shift transmission.

With a combination of lightweight off-road design and race-specification components, there are few vehicles that can match the Comet R’s particular breed of performance, arguably occupying a similar niche to the Ariel Nomad. It is about as wide as a mid-size hot hatch, while its length and height are both smaller than a Smart car.

Built in April 2019 for the first and only owner, this Rage Comet R is the only example to have its body panels finished in Aintree Green, mounted around the remarkably strong black powder-coated tubular space frame chassis. The protruding wing panels cover the bespoke and fully adjustable Intrax rally shock absorbers with spherical bearings, and the 14-inch wheels with chunky Malatesta Artic all-terrain tyres. Front and rear ‘bash’ plates protect the more vulnerable components during fast off-road driving.

The optional tarmac-focused shorter coil springs are also included in the sale, as well as the full off-road wheels. This Comet R was also specified with the rally-style handbrake, front and rear lights and indicators, and a windscreen with wiper and washer jet. Some spare rear drive shafts are also included in the sale.

In the cockpit, there are adjustable Cobra race seats with Diolen shells, equipped with five-point TRS Magnum harnesses. Ahead of the driver is a quick-release Sparco steering wheel, and an ETB DigiDash instrument display. The rally-style gear shift stands prominently between the seats, connected to the sequential transmission.

The Comet R’s first service was in December 2020 at 58 miles, which included renewal of the oil filter. The tyres remain in as-new condition. As well as the quick steering rack, there is also an adjustable brake bias controller fitted.

This Rage Comet R is a superbly engineered road-legal but off-road focused machine, which boasts rally car performance in an accessible package. Weighing in at around 575kg, the Kawasaki engine’s 240bhp is sufficient to launch the buggy from 0-60mph in around 3.5 seconds, delivering a truly exhilarating driving experience. For an enthusiast seeking a different kind of thrill, whether on or off road, this motorsport-grade all-terrain vehicle will no doubt prove an addictive addition to any collection.
