2019 ASTON MARTIN DBS SUPERLEGGERA 59

Built to commemorate one of the most significant motorsport successes in Aston Martin’s history, the ‘DBS 59’ is a special version of the DBS Superleggera, limited to just 24 examples. Developed as a bespoke commission for Aston Martin Cambridge through the ‘Q by Aston Martin’ personalisation service, it celebrates the DBR1’s historic 1–2 finish at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, with one car built to mark each hour of the race.

This particular ‘DBS 59’ model is number 14 of the 24 cars built. A variety of visual upgrades make this DBS stand out from regular models, including carefully matched Aston Martin Racing Green paintwork, a gloss carbon-fibre roof and strakes, and satin bronze accents on the wheels, brake callipers, badging and interior detailing. There are also unique bronze foil inlays on the rear carbon-fibre spoiler in the shape of the winning DBR1 and denoting its chassis number.

An outstanding example of the marque’s limited-edition super GT, this DBS 59 is powered by the 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 producing 715bhp and 664lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

Initially registered on 28 May 2019, this car was handed over to its first and only owner at a special ceremony before the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans race – as per the other 23 examples. The owners were then permitted to display the cars is a celebratory parade lap, and the following day the vendor drove this DBS 59 back to South Wales, covering some 560 miles. Since then, it has only covered some 1,690 local miles, and the odometer now shows just 2,250 miles from new – and the car remains in as-new condition.

Resplendent in the bespoke Aston Martin Racing Green paintwork, the svelte body of this DBS remains pristine. The bronze-finished casing around the grille remains in excellent order, with no stone chips present on the dramatic front end. Evocative design flourishes include bronze ‘Superleggera’ script astride the twin bonnet vents, as well as a Union Jack-decorated Aston Martin wing badge. The carbon-fibre A-pillars, roof panel, rear spoiler and front splitter are also free of any damage, highlighting the sparing use this car has had so far. It rides on 21-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, which are all pristine.

Inside, the Aston’s sumptuous interior is a compelling blend of Obsidian Black with Chestnut leather. The electrically adjustable, heated and cooled memory seats show only the slightest signs of use, and absolutely no damage or discolouration, while the leather steering wheel and other main contact points are also in superb condition. An eye-catching ‘mural’ of the DBR1’s 1959 Le Mans victory adorns the headlining, while a custom tweed fabric is inlaid into the door panels. All of the switchgear and electrics are in perfect working order, and there are no warning lights.

With only gentle use in the past two years, this DBS had its first scheduled maintenance visit in July 2020 at 1,966 miles to Aston Martin Bristol, with the vendor stating that a standard annual service and check-over was carried out.

As the Aston Martin is less than three years old, its first MOT is not due until May 2022. Shod in matching Pirelli P Zero tyres all round, these are the original items and retain approximately 5mm of tread on each tyre.

As well as the service handbook, this example will be supplied with its complete set of 59-specific accessories. This includes a branded luggage set, two 1950s-inspired racing helmets, two sets of goggles, overalls and gloves, and a leather-bound photobook detailing the model’s history. A branded car cover is also included.

Offering thumping twin-turbocharged V12 performance, limited-edition provenance and handsome styling, this Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 59 is a stunning blend of supercar and grand tourer. While the low mileage, single private ownership, and rare specification will undoubtedly appeal to collectors, this Aston Martin also deserves to be thoroughly enjoyed on long-distance road trips or weekend blasts.
