2019 AK 427 MKIII 'SUPA LITE'

This stunning, nearly new AK 427 MkIII ‘Supa Lite’ offers a prospective buyer the chance to pay tribute to the AC Cobra, teaming the classic style and sound with modern engineering know-how. Under the bonnet, this replica harbours a 6.2-litre Chevrolet Corvette LS3 V8 engine that produces 450bhp and a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer reads just 858 miles.

With just two owners from new, this AK 427 was first registered on 1 June 2019. The current owner bought the car with just 100 miles on the odometer and has kept it for the last year.

The car’s bodywork is reported to be in excellent condition, with the seller noting just a couple of exceptionally minor blemishes. The Audi palette Daytona Grey Pearl paintwork has a 2mm by 2mm stone chip near the front left headlight, which has been touched up. There is also a small chip in the door shut, which the vendor says is not visible when the door is closed. The wheels appear to be in superb condition.

The car comes with a fresh retro-styled interior, and the seller describes the overall condition as excellent. The perforated black leather upholstery is in great shape, and the seats, carpets and door cards are accented with white piping and contrast stitching. The Molo-Lita steering wheel is wrapped in plain black hide, and USB ports can be found under the dashboard. No faults have been noted with any of the switchgear.

The car’s last maintenance work was carried out when the current owner took delivery in September 2019. At that point, Oxfordshire-based classic car specialist Hightone Restorations checked the car over and performed an oil change. The oil filter was also changed, along with the front wheel bearings. Hightone Restorations also fixed a minor coolant leak in January 2020.

After being inspected upon its registration in June 2019, the car’s first MOT test is not due until June 2022. The Continental tyres have covered just 858 miles from new, so still have ample tread remaining.

Despite its tender age, this AK 427 comes with a good deal of paperwork. The original build receipts are included, showing exactly which features have been fitted, while a range of other additions are also recorded. These include an immobiliser and push-button start. Furthermore, the documentation includes the Department for Transport’s letter confirming the car’s original registration and details of work carried out since.

This AK 427 MkIII is a fabulous homage to Carol Shelby’s most famous creation, giving drivers and onlookers the chance to experience a taste of the noise and style of the original AC Cobra, while the driver benefits from modern underpinnings and a contemporary powertrain. Better still, that comes alongside incredibly low mileage, thorough maintenance, and AK Sports Cars’ tried and tested engineering. It is certainly not a vehicle for wet commutes, but when the sun shines, there can be few cars that will put such a big smile on their driver’s face.
