2018 TOYOTA GT86

This Toyota GT86 Pro D4-S is an original example of the marque’s entertaining, lightweight and practical performance car. Its engine is a 2.0-litre flat-four producing 197bhp and 151lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 36,266 miles.

First registered on 1 March 2018, there is just one previous keeper on the log book, though the current vendor acquired the car in July 2018 and has cherished it ever since.

The GT86 boasts a 53%/47% front-to-rear weight distribution, making for an agile and responsive sports car. In its first year of production, Top Gear magazine crowned it ‘Car of the Year’, while Autocar made it their ‘Best Driver’s Car’. This car is a facelifted example, which benefits from a slightly stiffer suspension, LED headlights, higher-grade upholstery and revisions to the body trims.

Wearing its original metallic red paintwork throughout, the GT86 presents well with an even and crisp finish. Only a handful of stone chips are visible on both the front bumper and bonnet, with little else to detract from its purposeful yet understated appearance. The black vinyl side decals augment the finish, and are undamaged.

Body fixtures including the light lenses, badging, mirrors and glass are also in very good condition, with the Toyota retaining its OEM 17-inch alloy wheels. These are in excellent condition with no kerbing marks or damage to their faces.

Moving inside, the GT86’s cabin is a blend of ergonomic features and stylish design. The half-leather sport seats are in excellent order, with only light signs of use and no damage. The large infotainment screen is also working perfectly, while the switchgear presents well. The vendor reports that all accessories within the car work as intended, with this example benefiting from heated seats, a multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and aux-in and USB connectivity.

The GT86’s most recent service was on 28 October 2019 at 29,902 miles by Motorline Toyota of Stourbridge. This was an intermediate engine oil service, with a full service carried out only months previously on 23 May 2019. On 20 December 2018, the car’s first service was undertaken – with all work carried out to date by the same garage. The belt-driven engine is not due a cambelt replacement until 2024 or when 60,000 miles has been reached.

Due to the age of the GT86, its first MOT is not due until 28 February 2021. It also enjoys the balance of the original and generous five-year Toyota warranty. The car wears matching Michelin Primacy HP tyres all round, which have approximately 3mm of tread on the rear wheels and 5mm on the fronts.

Accompanying the car is the original driver’s handbook, stamped service book and historical invoices, as well as its unused space-saver rear wheel.

Combining a classic front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout with the boxer engine enabling a very low centre of gravity, the Toyota GT86 is a lightweight performance car with a superb chassis, which offers unbridled fun and proven reliability. It would make for a very enjoyable and effortless daily driver, or an entertaining weekend toy.
