2017 LONDON TAXI COMPANY TX4

This London Taxi Company TX4 is an as-new, delivery-mileage example of one of the world’s most recognisable vehicles. The iconic ‘London taxi’ silhouette is famous all around the globe, and this is an unused TX4 variant in pristine condition. It is powered by a 2.5-litre Euro 5 compliant diesel engine, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer shows just 130 km.

An Australian compliant example, this TX4 remains unregistered, having never been put to use on the road, either for fun or for paying passengers. The vendor notes that a Certificate of Roadworthiness will be supplied with the sale.

Of course, this taxi has never suffered from any damage, so the bodywork of this iconic ‘black cab’ remains in superb order, with its Raven Black finish also free of scuffs, scratches or chips. Its appearance is accented by the bright upright front grille, with the door handles and boot finisher also adding silver contrasts to the body. The TX4 rides on black steel wheels, while the original disc wheel trims remain safely stored in the boot, in their delivery wrapping.

In the driver’s compartment, the taxi has a single seat upholstered in hard-wearing black cloth, while the dashboard is given a touch of sophistication with its imitation wood veneers. All of the switchgear is pristine, and there is even the original delivery plastic over the instrument gauges. The passenger compartment is spacious, capable of seating up to five, with two rearward-facing ‘jump seats’. A fold-out wheelchair ramp is built into the floor panel under the left-hand side door, with an extension section stored in the boot to give it a shallower incline if needed. A 437-litre boot is located at the rear, while the cabin is equipped with air-conditioning, passenger controls for the side windows, and an intercom system between the compartments.

Accompanying this TX4 is the original handbook, spare wheel, plastic disc wheel covers, and the wheelchair ramp extension as well as other securing fixtures.

Sir Kenneth Grange’s design for the TXI, which evolved into the TXII and later TX4 brought the iconic ‘black cab’ silhouette into the 21st century, modernising its appearance without losing its character. These contemporary models are becoming increasingly sought after now that the new generation of plug-in hybrid taxis are on the roads, and brand-new and unused examples are almost impossible to find.

This London Taxi Company TX4 is a remarkably rare find: an as-new example of one of the most famous vehicles in the world, and among the very last of the pre-plug-in production run. It would make a fun conversation-starter for any collection, but could also be put into service as an unusual but head-turning runabout, or as a charming promotional vehicle for a business.
