2017 BMW M3 30 JAHRE LIMITED EDITION

To mark 30 years since the M3 was first launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1986, BMW launched the 30 Jahre (30 Year) Edition, which followed on from the M5 30 Jahre released in 2014. Only 30 cars were available in the UK, all featuring a power boost and other visual and performance upgrades. The 30 Jahre Edition has the M3 Competition Package as standard, meaning the 3.0-litre inline six now produces 444bhp, and can launch the car from 0-62mph in just four seconds.

The car also boasts the Adaptive M suspension setup with upgraded springs and dampers, carbon ceramic brakes, forged 20-inch alloy wheels and various carbon-fibre trims. Power is sent to the wheels via a dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shift. The odometer currently indicates 12,798 miles from new.

First registered in March 2017, this M3 Jahre Edition has three registered keepers on the log book, including the vendor who acquired the car earlier this year.

With a carbon-fibre front splitter, mirror caps, rear diffuser and spoiler, not to mention bespoke ’30 Jahre’ badging, the exterior of this M3 is readily identifiable as the special Limited Edition. The Frozen Silver paintwork presents in excellent condition, as do the forged 20-inch star-spoke design alloy wheels, with no evidence of kerb damage. The substantial carbon ceramic brake discs are gripped by gold calipers with distinctive BMW M emblems.

Inside, the driver and passenger are treated to a pair of two-tone black and blue M Sport seats with embroidered 30 Jahre logos, while the steering wheel and seatbelts feature the signature BMW Motorsport tri-coloured stripes. The carbon-fibre trim continues throughout the cabin, while the interior also has a Harman Kardon sound system and a head-up display as standard. The upholstery and interior trims are presented in excellent condition, with no evidence of any scratches or scuffs, and no faults reported with any controls or electrics.

The last service took place in April 2020, where the technicians at BMW changed the engine oil and filters. Prior to this, the vehicle was serviced by BMW Milton Keynes in February 2020 at 10,790 miles, and BMW Luton in October 2018 at 5,047 miles. The running-in service was also carried out at approximately 1,000 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 18 February 2020, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The vehicle sits on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres all round, which appear to be in good condition, with plenty of tread remaining. Accompanying the car are all of the original BMW handbooks, service book and the first aid kit.

This 2017 BMW M3 ‘30 Jahre’ Edition is a rare and collectable model built to celebrate three decades of perhaps the definitive ‘everyman’ performance car. Boasting a powerful straight-six as well as the Competition Pack’s uprated brakes and suspension, this is a sports saloon that will put a huge grin on any enthusiast’s face. With just 30 examples sold new in the UK market, it will also appeal to collectors, and this example will certainly not disappoint.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
