2017 BMW M140i - SHADOW EDITION

This M140i is a well-specified example of BMW’s celebrated rear-wheel-drive hot hatch. Featuring a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing 335bhp and 369lb-ft of torque, this car is equipped with the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The odometer shows 24,500 miles from new.

First registered on 22 September 2017, this M140i has had two owners including the current vendor, who has owned the car for a year. This hot hatch is now available as the seller is looking to obtain a more spacious car in which to carry their first child.

Ordered in the rare factory shade of Melbourne Red Metallic, this BMW has been garaged regularly and kept off the roads by its owner during winter. All panels present well, with even shut lines throughout, and the red paintwork remains in great shape. There are small stone chips along the bonnet and front bumper commensurate with its regular use, and the rear bumper has a minor paint defect under the right-hand rear light cluster.

As a Shadow Edition model it features gloss black grilles, and darkened front and rear lights. There are also black roof rails and black door handles, which are all in excellent order. The 18-inch black alloy wheels are also in great condition, with no kerbing damage.

The eye-catching Oyster leather interior is in superb order, with only some minor bolster wear to the driver’s seat from entering and exiting the vehicle. Contact points including the leather-rimmed steering wheel, shift paddles, gear stick and iDrive controller are free of nicks and scuffs. Fastidious care has also been taken by the current owner to ensure that the gloss black interior trims remain scratch-free.

The rear bench seat and boot area are in excellent condition, suggesting very light usage. This M140i also benefits from the addition of a sunroof, which is in full working order. The seller reports that there are no switchgear faults or electrical issues with the car.

This M140i is fresh from a service carried out at John Clark BMW in August 2020. Prior to this, the car’s first service was in September 2019 at the same main dealer, at approximately 18,350 miles.

It is not due its first MOT test until 21 September 2020, and there are no known issues with the car, so a pass with flying colours is anticipated. The BMW wears Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres all round, with the 225/40/ZR18 fronts having approximately 5mm of tread and the 245/40/ZR18 rears at around 3mm.

This Bavarian hot hatch will be supplied with its original tool kit, handbook and digital service log supplied, along with invoices for the work carried out to date.

In a market where front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive hot hatches with four-cylinder engines are the norm, the M140i is cut from different cloth, with a larger capacity six-cylinder motor and rear-wheel drive delivering superb performance and dynamics. This particular car is presented in excellent condition throughout, and in a lesser-seen factory colour, and is a great example of an exciting yet eminently reliable and practical family car.
