2016 LOTUS EXIGE S CLUB RACER

This Lotus Exige S Club Racer is a well-maintained and ready-to-use example of the marque’s super-lightweight sports car, presented in good condition throughout. Under the engine lid is the 3.5-litre supercharged V6, producing 345bhp and 295lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 18,860 miles.

First registered on 25 January 2016, this Exige S is an original UK-market car which has been enjoyed by the vendor for just over two years. There are two previous keepers on the log book.

Combining the Lotus hallmark of an agile chassis with significantly more power than the standard car, the Exige S Club Racer can reach 60mph from rest in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 172mph. To accommodate the larger engine, this model is approximately 25cm longer and 5cm wider than the Elise models with which it shares its underpinnings.

The Lotus presents well in metallic white, with no unsightly damage or blemishes visible on the body or paintwork. In 2019, the car had some damage to the front clamshell on the offside, which was repaired and repainted by an independent body shop. More recently, in June 2020, a scuff on the rear clamshell was repaired and repainted – blending into the side sills and doors – by South West Lotus Centre, and the satin black area was also refinished.

Today, the body shut lines look flush and with consistent panel gaps, indicating that the work carried out has been completed to a good standard. The lights, badging, glass and plastic grilles are likewise in excellent order. This example retains its five-spoke double-arm 17-inch wheels, which are in good order with no kerbing marks.

Inside, the spartan Club Racer is devoid of many creature comforts in its quest for performance. The inviting bucket seats with Lotus-embossed headrests are in excellent order with no rips or tears, as are the Schroth Racing harnesses. The only wear of note is visible in the passenger side foot well, as well as the visible wear seen on the quick-release steering wheel. The seller advises that there are no faults with any of the cabin switchgear or electrics, and the dashboard, door cards and sill covers are in good order.

Last serviced in June 2020, this lightweight Brit received an oil change by South West Lotus Centre at 18,413 miles. Prior to this, the car was serviced in February 2018 at 11,505 miles by Howards Lotus.

Oil changes were also undertaken by Norfolk-based Stratton Motor Company at 4,515 miles in February 2017 and at 983 miles in March 2016. During the vendor’s tenure, the radiator fans have been replaced, while the air-conditioning system was re-gassed in June 2020.

The most recent MOT test was on 17 March 2020 at 17,528 miles. This resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. This lightweight road racer is fitted with Pirelli and Dunlop tyres all round, which are in good condition with no cuts or bulges. However, the vendor notes that the tread levels on all are getting low, which should be addressed before using the car in anger on the track.

Now offered to its next owner, this entertaining featherweight flyer will be supplied with its original driver’s handbooks, supporting historical invoices and stamped service history. The vendor will supply the OEM steering wheel and seat belts, as well as the quick-release item shown in the photos, so the next owner can choose which to use. Furthermore, the Lotus will come with a bespoke grey and black tailored outdoor cover purchased in 2018 from Specialised Car Covers.

This Lotus Exige S Club Racer is a thrilling sports car with giant-killing performance. A deeply involving lightweight special, this example matches its raw driving experience with a solid service history to date. While it could be savoured for use as a weekend B-road toy, it is arguably at its best when enjoyed on closed-circuit track days.
