This Land Rover Defender 110 XS is a wonderful bespoke build in superb condition, featuring a raft of cosmetic and mechanical upgrades to produce a car with a truly unique specification. Under the bonnet is the 2.2-litre TDCI inline-four, which has been fitted with a hybrid turbocharger and given a Stage 4 remap and tune to produce 195bhp, driving all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission with the Short Shift kit from TMD Tuning. The odometer shows just 10,331 miles.
First registered in March 2016, there is just one previous keeper on the V5C, and the vendor has owned the car for around four years.
The mechanical upgrades are the most significant element of this custom Land Rover, and along with the upgraded turbocharger and remap, the engine also benefits from a Hi-Flow Performance Intercooler from specialist Bell Auto Services, five-ply silicone hoses, and a performance air filter - plus a BAS remap remote control (RRC). Braking is upgraded with drilled and vented discs on all four corners, along with high-performance pads.
Even more notably, the car is now fitted with full air suspension, with bespoke turrets from specialist On Air, Fox shock absorbers, the progressive anti-roll bars from Twisted Automotive, and a horizon levelling module to adjust the corner heights when camping. The vendor states that this package has transformed the ride, giving a much smoother and more comfortable drive, with enhanced towing ability.
Its Santorini Black paintwork is still in excellent condition, with only very minor stone chips, superficial scratches on the driver’s door sill area, and slight bubbling of the paint on the driver’s door mirror. Cosmetic enhancements include a new front bumper with in-built daytime running lights, which is also equipped with a WARN Zeon 8K winch. At the front there is also a KBX grille and vent set in black, and an LED halo headlight conversion. A genuine Land Rover snorkel is also installed. At the rear, it is fitted with a tubular NAS step and towing bracket, with a tow ball and electric hook-up, black badging, plus LED rear light clusters, an additional fog light and reverse light, and high-level LED work/reverse lamps.
Mounted on the roof is a full length black aluminium lightweight roof rack, with an extra-large 52-inch LED spot light bar at the front to provide a surfeit of forward illumination. There are body-coloured mirrors, bumper and crossmember, as well as privacy glass, tubular side protection runners, and front and rear Dirt-D-Fender mud wheel arch spats. A Twisted Automotive 6mm alloy steering guard in black is installed at the front, and the Defender rides on 18-inch Twisted Sport alloy wheels finished in satin black - including an unused full-size spare. The wheels are all shod in BFGoodrich A/T tyres, which have ample tread remaining.
Like the exterior, the cabin has been given a comprehensive makeover with custom features. Preparation for the upgraded interior included full professional Stage 2 soundproofing by Lucari Solutions; including to the footwells, seat boxes, load area, rear wheel arches, body tub sides, side panels, rear three-quarter panels, the roof and the bonnet. It was fitted with an Alcantara headlining in black, seat box corner protectors, full carpeting, carpet over-mats and additional rubber mats, and with black aluminium carpet trims to all five doors.
The front seats were removed and replaced with Corbeau RRS items, with custom tan leather upholstery featuring diamond-quilted bolsters and shoulder supports. The same bespoke tan leather finish was applied to the second row bench and the two foldaway rear seats in the load area. The dashboard pods and passenger grip were also re-trimmed in tan leather, including a fourth panel between the steering column and instruments, as well as the armrest and central cubby box. Both front seats were given the tip-up seat base conversion, and the controls for the heated screens and rear screen wash/wipe were relocated to be in easier reach.
Ahead of the driver is a 350mm Momo Dark Fighter steering wheel trimmed with wood and black leather, while the indicator and light column stalks were given aluminium end caps. Aluminium and tan leather was also used for the custom door pull handles, and tan leather for the gear lever gaiters. Equipment includes a heated windscreen, Bosch aero wiper blades, and a Pioneer double-DIN head unit. The latter incorporates sat-nav, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, DVD playback, and a reversing camera. There is also an Alpine Amplified subwoofer mounted on the back of the cubby box, plus a full ‘Focal’ speaker upgrade throughout. As can be appreciated from the gallery below, the interior remains in superb condition, with minimal signs of use.
The last scheduled maintenance was in July 2020 at 7,598 miles, with Charing Motors in Ashford renewing the engine oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter, coolant and screen wash. Due to limited use prior to this, the previous service was in March 2017 at 2,799 miles, carried out by Guy Salmon Maidstone. During the vendor’s ownership, the front swivel joints have also been replaced.
Accompanying the car are the original books, including the delivery information, and receipts for the upgrade works carried out to result in the current bespoke specification.
This Land Rover Defender 110 XS is a superb customised 4x4, benefiting from transformed ride quality, a significant power upgrade, improved brakes, and bespoke exterior and interior finishes. With choice components sourced from the likes of Bell Auto Services, Twisted Automotive, On Air, and Lucari; this Defender now boasts a discerning and likely unique specification, and is now ready to be thoroughly enjoyed - on or off road.
