2016 HONDA CIVIC TYPE R FK2

This FK2-generation Honda Civic Type R is a supremely capable and dynamic hot hatch, which is enhanced by a number of desirable modifications and presented in good overall condition. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which has been tuned and uprated, driving the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays just 28,431 miles from new.

First registered in March 2016, this Type R was acquired by the seller three years ago, and has been treated to a slew of performance modifications, including forged engine components, a Forge dump valve, Exedy Stage 2 clutch, a Stage 3 ECU remap, full Milltek exhaust, magnetic suspension dampers, and braided brake lines.

Thanks to this hot hatch’s sparing use, its bodywork is in great shape, with no signs of any prior damage. Its vibrant Brilliant Sporty Blue metallic paintwork also presents well, with a smooth appearance around the entire car. While there are some minor stone chips on the front bumper and door mirror covers, this is in line with the car’s road use. Furthermore, the vendor has the correct Brilliant Sporty Blue touch-in paint with the car, so the next owner could fill these if they wish. The car rides on the correct set of 19-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels, which appear to have been refurbished in the past and are in good overall condition, with only minor blemishes.

Already known for its striking appearance, this Civic Type R’s exterior has been given an extra touch of drama with the addition of red and black decals around the upper front grille, bonnet and door mirror covers, as well as on the doors, the lower sections of the side skirts and the lower rear bumper/diffuser. However, these should be relatively straightforward to remove if the buyer would prefer a more factory-correct look.

On stepping into the cabin, you are left in no doubt that this Civic is far more than a standard hatchback, with the signature Type R red and black colour scheme featuring heavily throughout. Both of the supportive front sports seats are clad in red synthetic suede with black centre stripes and side bolsters, and present very well, with only minor creases to their surfaces, which is commensurate with the car’s age. Appearing to have been seldom-used, the rear seats are in great shape, and their black fabric coverings are accented by red stitching and matching red seatbelts.

Elsewhere, the other interior trim is in generally good condition, with a scuff on the driver’s seat back, wear to the red leather covering the lower-right portion of the steering wheel, and superficial scratches on the aluminium gear knob. As with the car’s exterior, the seller has added an extra touch of theatre to the cabin, with red neon lights fitted in the front footwells, front doors and under the rear seats.

Factory-fitted equipment includes climate control, selectable driving modes, lane-departure warning, a multifunctional infotainment system, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera. The vendor states that all of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This Civic Type R’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in August 2019 at approximately 18,000 miles, when the engine oil was changed and a racing air filter was fitted. Prior to this, oil and filter changes were carried out at around 12,000 miles and 7,000 miles, when the seller acquired the car.

During their ownership, the vendor has had this contemporary hot hatch hero extensively modified to improve its already impressive performance. This has included the installation of forged engine components, a Forge dump valve and a Stage 3 ECU remap, with the additional power being sent to the wheels via an Exedy Stage 2 carbon clutch. The engine has also been allowed to breathe more easily with the addition of a Pipercross racing air filter and a full 3.5-inch Milltek exhaust system, while the car’s ride and handling has been enhanced by a set of magnetic suspension dampers.

The car’s latest MOT test was conducted on 14 July 2020 at 28,037, which it passed after an issue with the nearside rear tyre fouling part of the vehicle was corrected. Advisories were issued for wear to the edges of both front tyres and the offside rear tyre, while the tester noted that the nearside rear tyre’s remaining tread at the time was close to legal limit. Today, the front wheels are shod in Bridgestone RE050A tyres with around 3.5mm of usable tread remaining, while the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 items at the rear have approximately 4mm of usable tread available.

This Civic Type R will be accompanied by its original handbooks and stamped service book, as well as its most recent MOT test certificate and various invoices for its maintenance and modifications.
