2016 ABARTH 695 BIPOSTO RECORD

This Abarth 695 Record is a rare limited-edition Italian ‘pocket rocket’, presented in outstanding condition and with only one owner from new. Under the bonnet is the 187bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre inline-four, which drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential, allowing this featherweight city car to dash from 0-62mph in just 5.9 seconds. The odometer displays only 14,744 miles from new.

Created to celebrate Karl (later Carlo) Abarth’s 1965 acceleration record at Monza, the Record edition is set apart from the ‘standard’ 695 Biposto by its Modena Yellow paintwork and textured black door mirror caps, badge panel and exterior door handles. It also features lightweight O.Z. Racing alloy wheels, remote-reservoir shock absorbers and a riotous Akrapovic exhaust system, as well as a unique interior and other cosmetic touches.

In total, only 133 Record editions were built, with only 39 planned for delivery to the UK market. First registered on 13 August 2016, this 695 Biposto Record is number 043 of those 133 cars, and has only one private keeper listed in its logbook.

Today, its bodywork remains free of any accident damage, with smooth panels and even shut lines. The Modena Yellow paintwork is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition, with a glossy appearance around the car and only a few minor stone chips on the front bumper. Hewn from gloss-finish carbon-fibre, both the lower grille surround and rear diffuser present very well, and the car’s unique textured black exterior trim items are in good order. It rides on its original lightweight 18-inch OZ Ultraleggera alloy wheels, which are in great shape.

On entering the cabin, it becomes clear that this little Abarth’s primary focus is on lightweight functionality, with carbon-fibre Sabelt bucket seats taking centre stage, while the rear seats have been removed in favour of a titanium frame which is covered with a cargo net. Both of the front seats present very well, with few signs of use on their black Alcantara, textured fabric and leather upholstery. Where more sedate Fiat 500-based cars feature relatively plush floor mats, the Record is instead fitted with aluminium tread plates, which are in excellent condition.

The touchpoints, including the black leather-wrapped steering wheel and manual gear knob are also in good order, and the lightweight door card panels are free of any significant scuffs or scratches. In the interest of weight savings, the 695 Biposto Record is not fitted with a radio or air conditioning system, allowing the driver to focus their full attention on its boisterous exhaust note. All of the interior switchgear and electrical items work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Mechanically, this Abarth is in great shape, having been driven sparingly and routinely maintained from new. Most recently, it underwent an oil service and inspection, which was carried out in July 2020 at 14,563 miles by Abarth Performance Autoworks. Prior to this, the car’s engine oil and filter were changed in September 2019 at 11,939 miles, when the brake fluid was also changed, and an oil service was performed in July 2018 at 10,302 miles.

Its latest MOT test was conducted on 17 July 2020 at 14,563 miles, resulting in a clean first-time pass. All four wheels are fitted with 215/35 ZR18 tyres, with the original Goodyear Eagle F1 items at the rear and replacement Nexen N’Fera SU1s on the front. The seller states that each is in good condition, and has around 5mm of usable tread remaining.

The car will be accompanied by its original handbook and service book, plus its full factory tool kit.

This Abarth 695 Biposto Record is a focused, lightweight hot hatch, which offers an uncompromising driving experience in a compact package. As one of only 133 examples worldwide, it will likely remain highly collectible for many years to come, but will truly come alive when being flung along a twisting B-road, where its low kerb weight and riotous Akrapovic exhaust can truly be enjoyed.
