This Ultima GTR is a rare lightweight sports car with incredible outright performance, which has been enjoyed as intended and is in superb condition throughout. Its engine is a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated LS3 V8, producing around 540bhp, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed G97-50 manual transmission as fitted to the Porsche 997 Turbo. The odometer shows 16,563 miles from new.

Built using a space-frame chassis and GRP body panels, the Ultima GTR is a sleek but purposeful design. This particular car was supplied by the factory in kit form and built by an experienced engineer using new components throughout. Its engine, fuel system, and Porsche gearbox were all supplied by specialist bespoke supplier, Autobionics.

The seller acquired the car from the first owner in September 2017, when it had just a few thousand miles on the odometer, and subsequently commissioned a number of mechanical improvements to ensure optimal reliability and safety, as he intended to make good use of the GTR. In less than three years, he has covered some 13,000 miles behind the wheel - all in the dry - including a 1,200-mile road trip to the northern tip of Scotland. Throughout his ownership, it has proved to be a thrilling yet dependable machine. It has only ever been used on the road.

The bodywork is in excellent condition, with no cracks or damage to the GRP panels, and with impressive shut lines around the front and rear clamshells and butterfly doors. It also features the desirable extras such as the carbon-fibre rear wing, side sill extensions, and air scoops ahead of the rear wheels. There are also carbon-effect headlight surrounds, a carbon-fibre air box linked to the roof scoop, and a carbon-fibre rear diffuser.

Its original orange gelcoat is in very good order, and has been enhanced with light blue vinyl wrapped sections as a tribute to the classic ‘Gulf’ racing livery. The seller notes a small scuff on the offside rear wheel arch, and a stone chip in the gel coat on the front clamshell. There is also a 2cm scratch on the windscreen - which is not in the driver’s sight line - caused by a poorly fitted windscreen wiper that has since been replaced. The car rides on 18-inch Forgeline alloy wheels - a £6,000 optional extra - which are finished in matt black and are in pristine condition.

The cabin is equipped with supportive and well-padded bucket seats trimmed in black leather, with adjustable lumbar support, which are complemented by orange four-point Luke safety harnesses. The leather trim also extends to the dashboard panel, while the lower sections of the interior are finished in polished metal, including the double-skinned aluminium bulkhead. There are exposed gear shift mechanicals housed in a carbon-fibre console, as well as a Lifeline fire suppression system, and an OMP steering wheel trimmed in Alcantara. Ahead of the driver is a digital dashboard readout, and there is a small amount of luggage space available in the bins beneath the door sill covers.

Mechanically, this Ultima GTR is in fine fettle, having proven itself over many miles, ensuring there are no undiscovered issues from a lack of proper running-in. Its last scheduled maintenance was in July 2019 at 14,860 miles by X Works Service in Lancashire. This consisted of fresh oil for the engine and gearbox, and new filters for both, and re-gassing of the air-conditioning system.

Shortly after the seller acquired the car, he commissioned some revisions to improve the reliability, longevity, and safety. Some of this work was carried out in January 2018 by bespoke build specialist Autobionics. The engine was removed and the cams and valve springs were upgraded. The cooling fans were re-wired to the ECU and recalibrated, and a full engine recalibration was also carried out by Wortec. It is now mapped for high-octane fuel only. A new speed sensor was fitted at the same time, and the engine oil and filter were renewed.

The seller has also commissioned a full geometry set-up, including a reset of the ride height, dialling out of bump steer, and modifying the position of the steering rack. A CAE short-shift system was installed, along with an upgraded radiator, a new air-conditioning condenser, and new front tyres. The headlights were changed to full EVO specification LED items, and the plumbed-in Lifeline fire extinguisher system was fitted.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 5 October 2019 at 15,989 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. Its wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres in size 245/35 ZR18 at the front and 335/30 ZR18 at the rear. The front tyres are date-coded to late 2017, and have plenty of tread remaining, while a new pair of Pirelli rear tyres with 7mm of tread is included in the sale.

While the car is only five years old, there are detailed invoices and receipts for the recent works carried out, and it is accompanied by the original ‘Certificate of Newness’ from Ultima Sports Ltd attesting to the supply of the build components. The locking wheel nut key is also present, along with original exhaust system components.

This Ultima GTR is a high-performance sports car that boasts eye-opening analogue performance with an exotic design. It has a wonderfully addictive soundtrack, but is far from just a short-distance weekend toy. As the seller has shown, this car is more than capable of taking longer road trips in its stride, and it is present in excellent mechanical order, ready for many miles. If you have always loved the look of the Ultima GTR but have been waiting for a car with proven reliability and build quality, then this is an opportunity not to be missed.
