2015 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 XS STATION WAGON

This Land Rover Defender 110 XS Station Wagon is a highly original example of the seven-seater, go-anywhere icon. Under the bonnet lies a 2.2-litre inline-four turbodiesel engine, permanently driving all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and low-range gearbox. The odometer shows just 28,200 miles from new.

First registered on 4 September 2015, this Defender has only one previous keeper, and has been in the hands of the current private owner for the past year. It has been serviced every year, as per the summary below.

The Defender’s rugged lines are on proud display in the understated hue of Indus Silver. The paintwork is believed to be entirely original and remains in good order, with the vendor noting a minor scratch on the driver’s side front wheel arch extension. Minor scuffing and marks are also present around the side vent on the same wing, due to prior fitment of a snorkel, which is also included in the sale. Otherwise, the Defender wears its five years well, with all plastic fixtures, glass and light lenses – including upgraded smoked side repeaters, LED front indicators and rear lights – in very good order.

Riding on Land Rover 16-inch ‘Sawtooth’ alloy wheels, these are in good condition with no kerbing damage apparent. Some surface rust is visible on the undercarriage, which is common to most Defenders of similar age. The vendor adds that the original fitment ‘Boost’ design alloy wheels with Continental tyres will also be included in the sale.

The Land Rover’s utilitarian design continues inside, with the majority of its hardwearing interior plastics remaining in good condition. Contact points including the interior switchgear, steering wheel, gearstick, indicator and wiper stalks are free of wear or damage. All seven of its half-leather seats remain in great shape, with only light signs of usage and no damage to the fabric.

Standard XS specification includes air-conditioning, heated front seats, a heated front screen and electric front windows, and this example has an Alpine Bluetooth stereo head unit. The rugged Defender-branded floor mats are in excellent order, and the vendor reports that all the switchgear works as it should, with no dashboard warning lights illuminated.

This Defender was last serviced in December 2020 at 27,819 miles by RCV Country Vehicles, a local Land Rover specialist. The major service included replacement of the engine oils and filters, as well as a new switch pack.

Prior to this, a 48-month service was carried out in November 2019 at 22,598 miles by Elite Garage Services of West Lothian. Prior annual services were also carried out in August 2018, September 2017, and August 2016.

The most recent MOT test was on 22 December 2020 at 27,819 miles. This was a pass at the second attempt, after remedial work on the horn and windscreen washer system. The advisories recorded were for some corrosion on the nearside rear brake pipe, wear to the rear brake discs, and slight play in the offside rear wheel bearing. The rear seats had been removed at the time of the test, and the offside front seat belt was also noted to be slightly frayed – a common Defender foible.

Riding on BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres, these are only six months old and have covered approximately 1,000 miles since they were fitted. They remain in very good order with ample tread remaining.

This Land Rover Defender 110 XS Station Wagon is both a trusty workhorse and a bona fide modern classic. Presented in a timeless colour scheme and with a strong service history, it would be equally at home used as urban transport, as it would exploring all manner of moors, glens and valleys if the next owner so desires.
