2014 TOYOTA GT86

This Toyota GT86 is reported to be in fine mechanical health and has been routinely serviced from new. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine, which produces 197bhp and drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently shows 142,465 miles from new, and this will increase slightly as the car is still in use. It is offered for sale at No Reserve.

Crowned as Top Gear Magazine’s ‘Car of the Year’ and named as Autocar’s ‘Best Driver’s Car’ in its first year of production, the GT86 is a nimble and dynamic sports car, with a beautifully balanced chassis. First registered in June 2014, this GT86 has been enjoyed and driven as intended, and has three previous keepers on the V5C.

It is understood that the second owner travelled to and from Spain regularly in the car, with the history indicating that they bought it with 4,000 miles on the odometer in April 2015 and took it to 139,000 miles before selling it in June 2020. The third owner bought the car for his wife, but found it too low-slung for their liking, and as a result it covered very little mileage during their tenure. Due to a job change and house move, the current owner is unable to justify keeping the GT86 alongside their Mazda MX-5 and BMW Z3, so is offering it to another enthusiast to enjoy.

Given this Toyota’s mileage relative to its age, it might come as little surprise that its bodywork and white paint have their fair share of minor blemishes, including small parking dents, stone chips and scuffs. However, there is no indication of any substantial accident damage, and its appearance could be improved in places by a skilled dent removal technician.

The glass also features a few small chips, with larger scratches on the driver’s side window and the windscreen, but all of the light lenses are in good order and the car’s badges remain undamaged. It rides on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, which are finished in anthracite grey with diamond-cut faces. All four are structurally sound, but may benefit from refurbishment in due course scratches and kerb scuffs.

Moving inside, the cabin presents well overall, but features some general wear and tear. Trimmed in black leather with Alcantara centre sections and red stitching, the heavily bolstered seats are in good shape, with creasing and superficial damage to the driver’s outer bolster. Ahead, the surface coating on the black leather steering wheel has worn smooth in places; however this could be replaced or re-trimmed should the buyer wish to improve its appearance.

Elsewhere, the car’s buttons and plastic trim present well, with no substantial scratches or scrapes to speak of, and the infotainment system’s screen is in good order. The vendor states that there are no known faults with the car’s buttons, switches or other electrical items, and there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard.

Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out in October 2019 at 133,191 miles by Vantage Toyota, which was an interim service and included an oil and filter change. Prior to this, Vantage Toyota performed a full service in June 2019 at 123,856 miles and an interim service in February 2019 at 112,911 miles. During the seller’s brief ownership, the car has only required replacement of its rear brake pads, which were changed in March 2021.

The last MOT test was conducted on 8 May 2020 at 139,294 miles, resulting in a first-time pass without a single advisory. All four tyres are less than two years old, and are in good condition with plenty of usable tread remaining.

This GT86 will be accompanied by documentation of its service history and all of its original manuals and handbooks.

Combining the classic front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car layout with a compact boxer engine, the Toyota GT86 is a playful and lightweight modern performance car, which offers more than its fair share of ‘smiles per gallon’. While this example has a few minor cosmetic flaws, it is said to be in excellent mechanical condition, and represents what is likely to be a great value weekend toy or daily driver.
