2014 MORGAN 3 WHEELER

This Morgan 3 Wheeler is a charming open-air sports car, which harks back to a bygone era for a unique motoring experience. Taking pride of place at the car’s nose is its 2.0-litre air cooled V-twin engine, which drives the single rear wheel via an engaging and reliable Mazda MX-5 manual transmission. While the engine may produce a mere 82bhp, the 3 Wheeler’s 525kg kerb weight allows it to sprint from 0-60mph in a brisk six seconds. The odometer shows just 14,850 miles from new.

Launched at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Morgan 3 Wheeler was something of a return to form for the famously traditional company, who put their first V-Twin powered three wheeled cyclecars into production in 1910. By 1928, the marque had launched the Super Sports model, with lends many of its styling cues to the modern 3 Wheeler.

First registered on 4 February 2014, this one-owner example boasts a number of updates which were introduced for that model year, including an urban cooling pack to prevent overheating at low speeds, changes to the chassis construction for additional torsional rigidity, and revised steering geometry for reduced bump steer.

The car is further enhanced by a number of factory-fitted options, including a central rear-view mirror and shortened wing mirrors for improved visibility, a rear luggage rack, mohair tonneau cover and outdoor car cover. It is now offered for sale to another enthusiast, who will no doubt be delighted by its unique road presence and no-frills performance.

Given the 3 Wheeler’s heritage-inspired styling and largely exposed chassis, corrosion and stone chips are common issues. While it is described as being in good condition, the original Sports Green paintwork does feature some blemishes, particularly on the rear of the body. The black-painted mudguards are also showing signs of corrosion and the finish is flaking away on the lower portion of the offside item.

The seller also notes that there are some small areas of corrosion around the bases of the roll-over bars and there is a crack along the nearside mudguard attachment; however, these issues are commensurate with the car’s age and road use. Furthermore, the vehicle retains all of its original paint.

The trademark dual aero-screens and chromed side-exit exhausts present very well, as do the light lenses which are clear and free of any chips or cracks. Both of the front 19-inch black wire wheels are in good condition, and feature the correct chrome hub nuts, which have been polished to a high shine.

In the cockpit, the original fluted black leather seats are in great shape, as are the black leather side panels and the thin rimmed three-spoke steering wheel. Aircraft-style instruments add a fantastic retro touch, and all of the interior controls and electrical items work without fault.

Routinely maintained from new, this 3 Wheeler was last serviced on 7 July 2020 at 14,500 miles, when Merlin Auto Services replaced the engine oil and oil filter. Prior to this, full services were carried out in August 2016 at 11,988 miles and February 2015 at 5,977 miles, both by Morgan London.

This characterful car also benefits from steel drive train sprockets, which were fitted under warranty in July 2014 as replacements for the original aluminium items, when the drive belt, bevel box and associated components were also replaced. The owner would counsel anyone interested in buying such a Morgan not to do so unless these items have been replaced, given that they are known weak areas, and often only fail after a car is outside of the manufacturer warranty.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 7 July 2020 at 14,500 miles, where it secured a first-time pass without a single advisory. All three tyres are described as being in good condition, with the rear item having been replaced in February 2019 and the fronts in March 2016.

Accompanying the car are its original sales invoice, stamped handbook and service book, original tool kit and inner tube replacements, plus its mohair tonneau cover and outdoor car cover.

Described by Evo magazine as “a properly grassroots car which gets back to the very essence of what enjoying a drive is all about”, the Morgan 3 Wheeler is a wonderfully stripped-back interpretation of sports car motoring.

Offered for sale by its original owner, this example is in fine mechanical health, and though it does show some signs of use, it will make a fine addition to any collection, and is guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of its next owner – not to mention any other people it passes by.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.

Please note: the cherished plate shown on the car is not included in the sale. It will be switched back to an age-related registration plate in the event of a successful auction.
