2014 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 XS

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is an excellent late-model example of the rugged British 4x4, presented with stylish decals and low mileage. Under the bonnet sits a 120bhp 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive. The odometer currently indicates 13,923 miles from new.

First registered in December 2014, this Defender has been assigned to the same automotive retail company from new, and used exclusively by one of their directors and their family. It has mainly been used to transport their dogs, and occasionally to tow a race car.

Its smart Corris Grey body colour is accented by a gloss black roof, wheel arches, and a black fascia surround for the headlights and grille. There are also gloss black ‘Sawtooth’ alloy wheels, KBX Hi-Force wing vents, and chequer plate metal trims around the wing tops and lower body. The headlights have been upgraded, and the front bumper has been replaced for a unit with in-built LED spot lights.

This Defender’s sturdy bodywork is all in good order, with the vendor noting that the exterior bolts have been replaced to guard against the common corrosion around the factory fixtures, and the car was undersealed by a Land Rover specialist in 2019. Its tow bar was upgraded at the same time. The condition of its Corris Grey finish has been described as excellent, with the vendor noting a small stone chip on the side of the bonnet, and the car also features distinctive Land Rover decals on each side panel. The Defender rides on a set of pristine 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the car has the full leather Land Rover front seats, which was a circa £4,000 option when new, and its black and grey upholstery presents in excellent condition. The car was specified from the factory as a non-bulkhead Hard Top, which allowed the seats to be upgraded. The central arm rest and cubby box, headlining, door cards and protective flooring are all in great shape, as is the robust dashboard panel. Both the rear flooring and benches are in exceptional condition, with little evidence of its use to transport dogs – other than the presence of a dog guard barrier.

An Alpine stereo CD player head unit is installed, which has Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and XS specification also brings heated front seats and air-conditioning. The turn indicators are functional, but they operate silently. Other than this, there are no other known electrical faults or foibles.

The engine bay looks pristine, which gives a good indication as to the fastidious servicing this Defender has received. The last routine maintenance was undertaken in December 2020, where technicians at Guy Salmon Land Rover in Northampton carried out an annual service. The vendor reports that the vehicle has been fully maintained according to the marque’s maintenance schedule, per the summary below.

The most recent MOT test was on 19 November 2020 at 13,462 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The Goodyear tyres are reported to be as-new. Accompanying the vehicle are all of the original handbooks, along with maintenance invoices. The Land Rover service history is also held online.

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is a fantastic example of the breed, with a pristine interior and genuine low mileage. A practical ‘go-anywhere’ 4x4, this Defender would make a reliable daily driver or a highly capable workhorse, or quite simply a superb addition to a collection of modern classic icons.
