If you are after a rugged and dependable 4x4, this low-mileage Land Rover Defender 90 XS could be the perfect companion. Its 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the odometer shows just 29,600 miles from new.

First registered in June 2014, this Defender has had three keepers prior to the current vendor. Fastidiously maintained, the car is described by the owner as being in superb condition, and has been safely garaged when not in use.

The bodywork is reported to be in excellent condition, and is finished in the smart Santorini Black hue. It also has a black grille, headlight surrounds, and even black badging, and is accessorized with Land Rover mud guards and KBX Hi-Force bonnet vents. The current owner has lavished care and attention on this Defender 90, including replacing all exterior bolts with stainless steel items, adding new LED crystal headlights, and replacing the tail lights and fog lamps with LED items.

The optional ‘Sawtooth’ wheels are in pristine condition – also painted in gloss black – and the undercarriage is reported to be in very good order, with a Twisted gearbox guard offering additional protection. The only blemish mentioned by the owner is that the side steps are beginning to show the first signs of paintwork bubble; however, this does not detract from the overall very impressive appearance.

The black leather interior has benefitted from the same care and attention as the exterior, with only the odd minor mark you would expect from a car of this age. The owner has added an Exmoor Trim XS Cubby Box in matching black leather and fabric. A Momo steering wheel was also installed, though the original will also be given to the new owner. Finally, a new headlight wiring loom has been installed to ensure the new LED lamps remain in good working order.

The Defender’s latest maintenance was at 28,000 miles at Hoffman’s of Henley in June 2020, where the car received a full service including fluid and filter changes as well as new intercooler pipes. Prior to that, the vehicle was serviced at 25,194 miles by Ongar Bridge Motor Group in September 2019, and in July 2019 at 16,387 miles by the same workshop.

The most recent MOT test was on 3 June 2020 at 27,901 miles, which resulted in a clean pass, with the tester noting only the presence of a factory-fitted undertray and engine cover. The condition of the tyres is excellent all round, including the rear-mounted spare.

This Defender 90 XS comes with all the paperwork it had when sold new, including its Land Rover handbook, warranty and maintenance book. The owner also has the full online service history from Land Rover stating all work completed to the vehicle over the course of its lifetime.

Overall, this Defender 90 XS presents is an enviable specification and in excellent condition. With some discerning upgrades, and in a smart black-on-black colour scheme, it is a very stylish example of the breed. Ready to be put into service as a rugged road vehicle, or pointed towards the nearest green lane, this is a great example of the iconic Land Rover that is ready to enjoy.
