2014 BAC MONO - VISIBLE CARBON FIBRE BODY

This BAC Mono is a sensational single-seater, designed with the track in mind, but which is also a thrilling car to drive on the road. Its engine is a naturally aspirated 2.3-litre four-cylinder Ford Duratec, developed and built by Cosworth, with rear-wheel drive via a Hewland six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shift. The odometer shows just 1,193 miles from new.

Described as “a Formula 3 car for the road” by the press, the Mono has bespoke pushrod suspension using race-specification Eibach springs and Sachs shock absorbers. Carbon-fibre composite bodywork clothes a bespoke steel chassis, and the BAC is equipped with powerful AP Racing brakes. With a kerb weight of just 540kg, it has a power-to-weight ratio well in excess of 500bhp per tonne.

This particular Mono is believed to be one of only two Cosworth cars specified from the factory with a visible carbon-fibre body, which required a bespoke grade of material to produce the perfect weave. The lower sections have a matt finish, while the main body panels are high-gloss carbon-fibre. This option alone added nearly £30,000 onto the original purchase price. As you can be seen in the photos, it has received a meticulous application of paint protection film (PPF) around the body.

Factory-fitted equipment includes the adjustable brake bias control, race-specification brake pads and adjustable dampers, a master kill switch, six-point harnesses, towing eyes, an in-board fire extinguisher, lightweight lithium battery, and a remote battery charging socket. It also has a race induction system, and a v-band joint exhaust system. In total, the optional extras on this car totalled £46,590.

First registered in December 2014, there is just one previous registered keeper on the log book. The current owner acquired the car just over three years ago, and has enjoyed around 1,000 miles behind the wheel.

The carbon-fibre body panels are all in excellent, accident-free condition, and there are very few imperfections around the finish. While paint protection film has been applied, there are some small marks around the wheel arches from the odd piece of passing debris, which is to be expected with an exposed car like the Mono. The top layer of material on the lip beneath the front towing eye has also been chipped slightly. It rides on the original black 17-inch OZ Racing Alleggerita HLT alloys, which are in superb condition.

The single-seat cabin is upholstered in ‘extreme’ waterproof black leather for the lower portion, and Microcare synthetic suede for the upper sections. The finish also applies to the carbon-fibre bucket seat, with leather on the base and suede for the backrest. All of the trim is accented by bright red stitching. The leather-trimmed removable steering wheel is in excellent condition, with a clear readout from the digital screen. All of the buttons and switchgear work as they should.

This Mono remains in superb mechanical order throughout. Early in its life, the car was used for a track day by the previous owner, but after a short run it was found to be very low on oil. Rather than take any risk with future reliability, the factory decided to replace the engine under warranty. There have been absolutely no issues with the new Cosworth motor.

The car will be receiving an oil change and check-over service by the BAC factory ‘flying doctor’ on 16 June 2020. It was given an intermediate service in July 2019, with a full health check, along with a replacement battery and installation of an intelligent charger. In June 2017, it received a service, fuel filter change, and health check at the BAC factory.

Its most recent MOT test was carried out on 5 July 2019 at 934 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The wheels are fitted with the original Kumho Ecsta tyres in size 205/40 R17 at the front and 245/40 R17 at the rear, which remain in good condition.

Accompanying the Mono is the original build agreement, and all subsequent service invoices. A tailored car cover and battery charger are also included, and it is also fitted with a Tracker security system.

This BAC Mono is an astonishing and extreme performance car, which delivers eye-opening pace and precision on the road or track. There is no other vehicle that is quite as pure or as driver-focused, and the seller says that time spent behind the wheel is a ‘life-affirming’ experience. These hand-built and beautifully engineered machines remain a rare sight, and this car is one of the most visually stunning examples.

Please note: the car is currently in the final month of a three-year finance agreement, but the small remaining balance will be cleared before ownership is transferred to the buyer.
