2013 MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS

This Mini John Cooper Works is a smart low-mileage example of the high-performance hot hatch, with a few discerning upgrades. Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre four cylinder JCW engine producing up to 208bhp, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer reads 36,427 miles from new.

First registered on 31 October 2013, this genuine Mini John Cooper Works remains almost entirely original, and has had a total of four previous owners from new. The current vendor has owned and cherished this example for the past two years.

Resplendent in gleaming Midnight Black, this example’s paint finish is in good order, thanks to a detailing session completed in January 2020. The vendor states that the front bumper and slam panel were replaced with original BMW items following a run-in with a muntjac deer, also necessitating a front bumper and bonnet respray. Some minor age-related marks are visible in the photo gallery, including shallow car park door dings on both doors, as well as a small scratch visible on the left rear quarter panel.

The car remains largely original, save for the fitment of an OEM Mini GP rear diffuser, rear window tints, and a resonator delete on the exhaust system. Wearing its original 17-inch alloy wheels, these remain in good overall condition with only minor corrosion present on the centre caps. The uprated JCW brakes are also in place.

Inside, the Mini’s funky interior design has aged well. The cream leather shows signs of age on the bases of both seats, but is free of rips or tears to the upholstery. The vendor adds that some wear is visible on the driver’s side bolster due to the seatbelt grazing it. An occasional dashboard warning light is triggered for the automatic start/stop system, which sometimes fails to temporarily cut out in cold weather. There are no other known electrical foibles, and all of the switchgear works as it should.

In March 2020 at 25,537 miles, the Mini was last serviced by Partridges of Hampshire. This entailed replacement of the engine oil and filter, as well as renewal of the brake fluid, air filter and spark plugs. Prior to this, the Mini was serviced by Sytner Swansea in February 2019 at 17,545 miles, with replacement of the brake discs and pads. Previous services are also recorded in April 2018 and October 2015.

The most recent MOT test was on 24 July 2020 at 29,189 miles. This was a first-time pass, with advisories for some corrosion on the front subframe as well as a nail in the offside rear tyre.

Offering a compelling blend of performance and city-friendly proportions, this Mini John Cooper Works is a well-maintained and stylish hot hatch. It would make for an exciting daily driver, or a fun weekend car to be savoured on the next owner’s favourite roads or circuits.
