2013 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 XS

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is a smart example of the classic utility vehicle, presented in excellent condition and with superb service history. It is equipped with the 2.2-litre DT224 diesel engine producing 120bhp, with permanent four-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 48,676 miles from new.

First registered in January 2013, this Defender has been with its current keeper for the last four years, and has two previous owners on the log book. It left the factory finished in the smart Havana hue, and is equipped with the 16-inch SVX style alloy wheels, side protection runners, and chequer plate panels on the lower body and wing tops. There is also the NAS rear step bumper, tow bar, KBX Hi-Force wing vents, a rear work lamp, headlight guards, soft A-bar, and spot lights. Inside, it has been treated to an FCX interior kit with additional leather trim and soundproofing.

The bodywork of this Defender presents in excellent condition, with flush shut lines and no evidence of any prior repairs. Its Havana paintwork still looks very smart, though the vendor notes a slight scuff on the offside rear wheel arch and a minor hairline scratch on the nearside door – both of which are shown in the gallery. There is also slight bubbling in the paint on the offside windscreen hinge cover, which is common to virtually all Defenders of a similar age. The 16-inch alloys have been refurbished, and now look superb.

In the cabin, the seats are trimmed in full black leather, which presents in very good condition, showing only slight wear on the driver’s seat and central armrest. Otherwise, all the upholstery is in superb order, and the FCX interior kit adds leather trim for the central cubby box, the dashboard top panel, and the passenger hand rail. In XS specification, it benefits from heated front seats, air-conditioning, and an Alpine stereo head unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. All of the switchgear is reported to work as it should, with no electrical issues or warning lights.

The last service was undertaken in December 2020 at 48,673 miles, where technicians at Mellors Elliot Motorsport in Bakewell changed the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter, before giving the vehicle a thorough check over and topping up all fluids and pressures. Prior to this, routine maintenance was carried out in November of 2019 at 40,975 miles, and in November 2018 at 34,289 miles, both at Land Rover specialist DLS UK. The most recent MOT test was on 8 December 2020 at 48,673 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with minor advisories to monitor slightly worn bushes on both rear shock absorbers and a note that the nearside front tyre was down to 4mm of tread. The wheels come wrapped in a set of Continental CrossContact tyres, three of which are reported to be in good condition, though with slightly more wear on the front tyre as noted in the MOT.

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is a British icon that remains in very good cosmetic and mechanical condition, and with relatively low mileage. Its desirable XS factory specification has been enhanced with several OEM Land Rover options as well as the FCX interior upgrades, giving it a more rugged appearance and adding some refinement to the cabin.
