This Land Rover Defender 110 is a smart example of the iconic 4x4, which has been given extensive mechanical, exterior, and interior upgrades by leading Defender specialist, Twisted Automotive. It is powered by the robust 2.2-litre DT224 inline-four, which has been treated to Twisted’s Performance Package upgrade and ECU remap, taking output to around 170bhp. Its four-wheel drive system is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 26,609 miles from new.
First registered in September 2013, this car’s log book shows one previous keeper, which is understood to be Twisted itself, after purchasing the Defender directly from Land Rover prior to customising it. The current and only private owner took delivery of the car in November 2013.
The mechanical enhancement of this Defender 110 includes not only the engine upgrade, but also the fitment of Twisted’s sophisticated Progressive Suspension package, which uses custom-valved Bilstein shock absorbers with Eibach springs and anti-roll bars, as well as an upgraded steering damper, to give the Defender a more comfortable ride and predictable handling without sacrificing its off-road agility. Six-piston Alcon front brake callipers are also fitted.
Today, the bodywork remains in excellent condition, having never suffered from any accident damage, and with the vendor not observing any other damage or dents. Its Santorini Black paintwork is still in very good order, with a smooth and even finish, and showing only a few minor imperfections commensurate with the Defender’s age and low mileage.
To complement its factory black paintwork, Twisted customised this Defender with a black oval badge, the gloss black grille and vent upgrade package, a black Land Rover bonnet badge, and with additional paint to the mirrors, bumper, cross member and door sills. There is chequer plate cladding on the powder-coated side protection runners, and the car is equipped with a North American specification (NAS) rear step and tow bracket, as well as a tow ball and electrics package.
Other exterior upgrades include a front bumper with in-built LED daytime running lights, plus LED projector headlights, and the 60th Anniversary style LED rear light upgrade. The exterior bolts have been changed to stainless items, privacy glass was installed, and a rear spare wheel carrier was added. Finally, the chassis received a full spray protection treatment.
Stepping inside, the restrained standard interior has been given a full Twisted custom makeover. There is custom carpeting fitted throughout, and the headlining and sun visors have been re-trimmed in Alcantara. A comprehensive re-trim of the rest of the cabin was also undertaken, using black Nappa leather and red stitching, to cover the Recaro CS seats in the first and second rows, the folding third-row seats, all of the door cards, the window surrounds, the complete dashboard, and the high-top cubby box. All of the upholstery presents in very good condition, in line with the low mileage.
The gear knobs, handbrake grip and gaiters were also re-trimmed, as well as the Momo Millennium steering wheel. A mid-range Hertz sound system was installed, plus a double-DIN Alpine touch-screen media system. What is not so obvious until the car is started up and driven, is that it has also received the full interior soundproofing package. There are no known electrical faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.
Its last scheduled maintenance was in July 2020 at 24,114 miles, when AMSP in Lancashire carried out an oil and filter change, replaced the brake fluid, and fitted a new fuel filter and rear differential front seal.
The most recent MOT test was on 26 November 2020 at 24,976 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects noted. Its wheels are still fitted with the original Twisted-fitted BFGoodrich tyres, which remain in good order.
This Land Rover Defender 110 by Twisted is a superb custom 4x4, which is not to be confused with Defenders that have simply had a few cosmetic modifications. Most notably, the acclaimed Performance Package and Progressive Suspension upgrade significantly enhance the car’s performance, while losing none of the classic character that appeals to so many enthusiasts. Offered directly from its first private owner, this is a high-specification ‘go-anywhere’ vehicle that would make a terrific daily driver or adventure vehicle.
