2012 MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS GP2

This Mini JCW GP 2 is a superb example of the marque’s limited-edition track-focused hot hatch, based loosely on the JCW Challenge race car and known for its purist driving experience. Under the bonnet sits a turbocharged 1.6-litre direct-injected four-cylinder engine producing 218bhp, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox, which can launch the car from 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds and keep pulling to 150mph. The odometer currently indicates 70,000 miles from new.

The JCW GP 2 is one of just 2,000 examples produced and comes fitted with a range of race-oriented parts, including a rear strut brace in place of the rear seats, an under-bonnet brace, adjustable coilover suspension and high-performance dampers. This car was first registered in November 2012 and has four previous registered keepers on the log book. The fifth keeper acquired the car in August 2019, and it is now offered for sale by the trade.

The bodywork of this limited-edition Mini presents in very good condition, including the full front valance, functional rear diffuser and rear spoiler. The Thunder Grey paintwork also presents very well, with the vendor noting only some pebble rash to the side skirts and some light stone chipping on the front end. The GP 2 is fitted with exclusive JCW four-arm 17-inch alloy wheels, which present with some wear on the black centre pieces, but are otherwise in good order.

Moving inside, the GP 2 boasts a pair of Recaro sport seats, with the rear seats deleted to save weight and featuring a strut brace instead. The original Anthracite upholstery remains in good condition, with just some minor wear to the bolsters, while the driver controls and switches also appear in good order. The GP badging sits proudly on the passenger side of the dash, as well as in the door sills and the seat tags, while the red trim continues through the gear knob, stitching and floor mats.

The owner has installed a Pioneer sound system, which sits underneath the driver’s seat, as shown in the images. The driver notes everything works as it should, with no electrical issues to report and no warning lights present on the dashboard.

The vendor states that the car has a comprehensive maintenance history prior to this, which was confirmed with Mini Blackpool in September 2020.

The most recent MOT test was on 13 July 2020, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. Other than an advisory about front tyre wear in 2015, the car has never received any other advisory notes, and has never failed an annual MOT test – arguably testament to the care and attention of previous owners.

The special-edition alloys are wrapped with Kumho Ecsta tyres at the rear and Falken Ziex tyres at the front, which the vendor describes as being in very good condition. Accompanying the car is the original literature, including the Mini handbook and service book.

This Mini JCW GP 2 is a limited-edition hot hatch, presented in very good order throughout. A car that has been driven and enjoyed as intended; this modern classic is a guaranteed delight on any track or winding B-road.
