2012 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 XS

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is a very well-presented example of the British automotive icon, finished in a black-on-black colour scheme with some discerning cosmetic upgrades. Under the bonnet is the 2.4-litre TDCI inline-four, with permanent four-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 64,584 miles.

First registered on 31 January 2012, this Defender has four previous keepers on the log book. It was acquired by its most recent private owner in February 2020, and is now offered for sale by the trade.

Its bodywork presents in good order, and the vendor is not aware of any previous damage to the panels. The Sumatra Black finish is in great shape, with a smooth and glossy shine, and with only minor stone chips to the bonnet noted by the vendor. There are also very slight scratches to both front wheel arch plastic mouldings. It is equipped with front and rear mud flaps, side protection runners, a tow ball and flip-down access step.

The front grille and headlight surrounds have been swapped to gloss black items, the lights have been upgraded to smoked LED units with ‘halo’ lenses at the front, and there is a Raptor 4x4 underbody guard installed. It rides on 16-inch ‘Boost’ alloy wheels, which are in very good condition.

Inside, this Defender features the half-leather upholstery - including for the two occasional seats in the rear compartment - and it all remains in excellent condition. There are signs of use, but no rips or other damage to the material and no heavy wear. The front seats are heated - as are the front and rear screens - and there is also air-conditioning as well as the original Land Rover radio and CD player. There are no known electrical faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.

Benefitting from regular maintenance throughout its life, the last service was carried out in October 2020 at 64,582 miles by ABP Motorsport in Crewe. Prior to this, recent services were carried out in July 2019 at 54,882 miles by Land Rover specialist Quattro Autocare, and by the same workshop in January 2018 at 37,175 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 27 October 2020 at 64,582 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The wheels are shod in Continental CrossContact tyres all round - including for the full-size spare. The front tyres are new, while the rear tyres still have around 4mm of tread, and the spare wheel is as-new.

Accompanying the Defender is the full book pack, including the stamped service record that is shown in the photo gallery. Old MOT certificates and some service paperwork is also present. The original light lenses, front grille panel and headlight surrounds are included in the sale, should the next owner wish to change the car back to a completely stock appearance in the future.

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is a superb example of the consummate ‘go anywhere’ daily driver. It has an appealing factory specification, subtly enhanced with some reversible upgrades, and also boasts a comprehensive maintenance history. This is a great opportunity to acquire an incredibly capable modern classic, equally well-suited to serving as family runabout as it is being enjoyed on serious off-road adventures.
