2012 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 XS DOUBLE CAB

This Land Rover Defender 110 XS Double Cab is a highly capable all-terrain utility vehicle, which has been enhanced by a number of functional modifications and is presented in impressive overall condition. It is powered by the robust 2.2-litre DT224 diesel engine, which drives all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays a very reasonable 56,183 miles from new.

First registered in July 2012, this iconic 4x4 was specified with Orkney Grey metallic paint over a partial leather interior, and has been subtly modified with a number of functional upgrades. There are three previous keepers on the V5C, and it was acquired by its current owner nearly one year ago.

While many Defenders are employed as utility vehicles with the associated knocks and damage that that often entails, this example has never suffered from any accident damage, and its bodywork remains in excellent condition. Its Orkney Grey metallic paintwork is also in great shape, and has a smooth and glossy appearance around the whole car, with only a handful of minor blemishes from use, including a slight mark on the rear driver’s-side wing.

The exterior trim also presents well, and a number of aftermarket components have been fitted to enhance this Defender’s usability and off-road capabilities, including a Safari snorkel, front tow hooks, a rear tow ball, a Predator Vision double-row 50-inch light bar and LED daytime running lights mounted in the front bumper. The door handles, hinges and window blocks have also been replaced with black anodised aluminium items, adding a premium touch while helping to resist corrosion, and a front steering guard has been fitted to help protect the vehicle’s mechanical components when the terrain becomes less forgiving.

At the rear, the load bed is topped with a lockable lid, and is lined with rugged chequer plate panels, while a rear light bar with twin LED lights provides illumination during even the darkest of late-night expeditions. A swing-away spare wheel carrier is also fitted, allowing full access to the rear storage area without hindrance. It rides on a set of 17-inch black modular steel wheels, which are in very good order, with no significant marks or scratches on their surfaces.

In the cabin, this Defender combines the rugged functionality that the model is known for with a number of modern creature comforts. All five seats are upholstered in black cloth with leather bolsters and headrests, and show only minimal wear in line with their use. Both of the front seats are heated, with the switches being mounted in a gloss black replacement fascia which is fitted in the dashboard, where the button for the air-conditioning system can also be found.

Additional modifications include the black Momo steering wheel and perhaps most notably the inclusion of a modern Pioneer infotainment system, which provides radio, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, while also displaying the footage from the vehicle’s aftermarket reversing camera. The sound system has also been upgraded, with Audison speakers and tweeters fitted throughout.

Overall, this Defender’s interior trim presents well, with some minor wear including scuffs to the lower sections of the door cards, but this is commensurate with its age. There are no known faults with the car’s buttons, switches or electrical items, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out in October 2020 at 54,665 miles, when Retro Automotive changed the engine oil and oil filter, and a previous service was completed in June 2020.

This Defender’s last MOT test was conducted on 27 May 2020 at 46,304 miles, resulting in a clean pass once issues with the nearside rear seatbelt and offside rear inner brake disc were rectified. All four wheels are fitted with Cooper Discoverer STT Pro off-road tyres, which the vendor states are brand new and have plenty of usable tread remaining.

This Land Rover Defender 100XS Double Cab is a unique and subtly modified go-anywhere 4x4, which is both supremely practical and surprisingly well-appointed. While it would undoubtedly make a fine utility vehicle, it could also be put into service as a versatile family car. Presented in excellent condition both inside and out, it is sure to impress its next owner; however they choose to use it.
