2012 BIMOTA DB8 SP

This 2012 Bimota DB8 SP is a stunning example of two-wheeled Italian exotica, presented in superb condition. Its engine is the 1198cc Desmodromic L-Twin from Ducati producing 170bhp, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 7,275km.

Expertly crafted at the boutique manufacturer’s factory in Rimini, Italy, the Bimota DB8 SP is a handmade masterpiece that is equally at home on both the road and the track. Being the final race-ready motorcycle produced by the company before its co-founder Massimo Tamburini passed away; the DB8 holds particular sentimental value for fans of the marque. Already a very rare machine, with the company producing just 200 motorcycles a year, the SP model is the ultimate incarnation of the famed Bimota brand.

The exterior of the motorcycles presents very well, with its lightweight bodywork finished in the signature pearl white and red colour scheme, and further enhanced with areas of carbon-fibre allowed to shine through with just a gloss clear coat for protection. The owner reports a small scratch on both the right-side fairing and mirror, which have been touched in. There is also a very minor scratch on the right-hand footpeg and a tiny stress crack on the dash.

The chassis is a work of art in its own right, with both the frame and swingarm a combination of Chromoly tubing and billet machined aluminium plate. The one-piece self-supporting rear subframe is made of carbon-fibre, and the bike is equipped with an ExtremeTech rear shock absorber. It joins the red Marzocchi Corse RAC 43mm forks held in place by machined triple clamps, to offer precise tunability of the suspension to meet the needs of any rider on the road or race track.

At the bottom of the forks are machined radial mounts for the Brembo brake package that consists of twin 320mm discs with four-piston calipers at the front and a single 220m disc and two-piston caliper at the rear. To reduce the unsprung mass, Bimota chose to fit the DB8 SP with OZ Racing Piega five-spoke wheels that are incredibly light. These are wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres which the owner reports retain around 80% of their original tread.

The engine is plucked from the Ducati 1198 superbike and maintains the Italian pedigree. Producing 170bhp and weighing just 170kg means the acceleration is rampant, but also smooth with the company's own electronics package managing the fuelling. The soundtrack is intoxicating thanks to the Zard titanium side-exit exhaust system.

The motorcycle last underwent a technical inspection on 6 August 2020 and no advisories or warnings were issued. The most recent routine maintenance was performed by D Moto on 6 November 2018 at 4,485km with the Ducati specialist replacing all fluids, the oil filter, and the drive belts. A new battery has been fitted and the motorcycle is offered for sale with the original owner's manual, service book and receipts, including for the original purchase and subsequent servicing.

This Bimota DB8 SP is a collector-quality example of one of the company's most impressive motorcycles. Hand-built in Italy with parts from some of the most renowned OEMs, this low-mileage and carbon-clad superbike is a work of automotive art. Still fresh from a recent belt replacement service at a Ducati specialist, this is a machine that is also ready to be enjoyed on the road and track, and which would be a credit to any superbike collection.
