2011 PORSCHE (987) BOXSTER SPYDER

This Porsche Boxster Spyder is an excellent example of the 987-generation swansong, combining an agile chassis with retro open-top styling cues. Its 3.4-litre flat-six produces 320bhp and 273lb-ft of torque, and in this case is coupled to the involving six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer reads 17,997 miles.

First registered on 2 September 2011, this UK market car has had four owners, including the seller. He has maintained and enjoyed this Boxster Spyder over the last two-and-a-half years. This particular example was also featured in the January 2016 issue of GT Porsche, as part of a comparison test with the 981-generation Boxster Spyder which replaced the 987.

First unveiled at the 2009 Los Angeles Motor Show, the 987 Boxster Spyder was the lightest Porsche available at the time, weighing some 80kgs less than a regular Boxster S, thanks to the use of aluminium for the doors and rear deck lid, among other weight reduction measures.

Resplendent in Carrara White, this Spyder presents in superb condition – testament to the low mileage and care with which it has been maintained. The finish boasts a deep, glossy hue, with no imperfections noted by the seller.

The bodywork features flush shut lines and factory panel gaps, while the badging and Porsche script adorning each side is similarly unmarked. The manually-fitted canvas roof also fits snugly to the windscreen frame when installed, and is in excellent order. Unique to the Spyder are its 19-inch 10-spoke lightweight alloy wheels, which display minor age-related marks on the centre caps but are otherwise without fault.

Moving inside, this car was specified with the coveted carbon-fibre sport seats, with grippy Alcantara upholstery for the centre panels and black leather around the bolsters and headrests. There is very slight wear on the driver’s side, but in general they present superbly.

The cabin reminds occupants of the Boxster Spyder’s design brief throughout, with model –specific touches such as the fabric door pulls, branded sills and dashboard and body-coloured centre console trim evoking design traditions from historic models. This model has been equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package, and all switchgear presents in excellent condition.

This pared-back sports car was last serviced in October 2019 at 17,562 miles by Porsche Centre Tonbridge. This incorporated a brake fluid and spark plugs change as well as replacement oil and filters, in line with the Porsche recommended service schedule.

Previous services were carried out in September 2017 by Porsche Centre Tonbridge and in August 2015 by marque specialist RPM Technik. The 2017 visit saw the engine oil, brake fluid and drive belt replaced.

The most recent MOT test was on 28 January 2020 at 17,743 miles. This – like every MOT the car has gone through since 2014 – resulted in a pass, and it currently has no advisories.

Shod in matching Michelin Pilot Sport tyres with approximately 5mm of tread all round, these are in the correct fitment of 235/35/ZR19 front and 265/35/ZR19 rear.

Now offered to another enthusiast, this Porsche will reach its next owner with its stamped service history, supporting historical invoices, two keys, Porsche-branded tool kit and warning triangle.

Combining razor-sharp handling, sonorous performance and evocative styling, this Porsche Boxster Spyder is an excellent example of the limited-production model. With low mileage and fully-documented service history, it would make a compelling addition to any Porsche collector’s garage, and is ready to be savoured on bright sunny days.
